around seven last night.

malicious wounding.

ended in gunfire around five o'clock
yesterday morning.

This weekend three Roanoke police

officers are on administrative leave.

Gas Station while gathering evidence

following a Saturday morning shooting
where the department says an officer
fired a single shot and hit the driver
of this Ford Tempo in the leg.

Police say they pulled the car
over after receiving information the
vehicle had recently been carjacked at
gunpoint.

THE SUSPECT AND BOTH PASSENGERS IGNORED
THE COMMANDS AND REACHED UNDER THE
FRONT SEAT OF THE VEHICLE.

Police say the driver, 30
year-old Chauncey Wade of Roanoke tried
to flee and put the car in reverse.

And in the process, hit three
officers and momentarily pinned one
between two vehicles.

A police cruiser brought the
driver to a halt by striking the car
before he could escape.

Officers didn't find a weapon
inside the Tempo but did retrieve nine
bags of crack cocaine.

Michael Witkowski was in area and
heard the gunfire.

SOMEONE IN HANDCUFFS AND THEY SAID GET
AGAINST THE CAR.

Police later discovered the car
had not been stolen from Layfatette
Boulevard but that the owner had traded
it in a drug deal.

Activity that doesn't come as a
surprise to the residents of this
community.

are trying to identify a woman who they
believe was murdered.

African-American female lying near a
drive-way on Ashton Hall Road around
7:30 Saturday morning.

Neighbors say they heard a gun
shot around one A-M followed by a loud
vehicle driving away.

Again, she's African American,
between 30 to 40 years old about 105
pounds or less.

James River are hurting businesses that

like behavior. This comes after a rabid

In other news, a citizen commission
has been investigating problems at
Danville Regional Medical Center...from
staffing complaints to emergency room
wait times.

The group presented its finding to
City Council. As a result, the
hospital's owner, LifePoint Hospitals,
has agreed to a separate review panel
to address the ongoing problems.

On Monday, Montgomery Regional
Hospital will open a new free-standing
imaging center. The 75-hundred square
foot facility has more than three
millions dollars in new technology as
well a private women's suite.

The hospital hopes at least
60-percent of its outpatient volume
will move to the new facility.

Lake levels have swollen because

But the Big Otter Mill is still a
lively place in the minds of those who
remember it as a booming business.

Burnett have formed a foundation to
preserve the mill.

Piece by piece, they're hoping to
reproduce the original mill and re-open
it as a tourist attraction - and a
teaching tool.

to come in on tours on a limited basis
during the year and actually see the
