Sherman Lea and Brian Wishneff say a
new amphitheater in elmwood park could
attract national entertainers without
sacrificing green space downtown.

Today, they called on council to
reverse its recent decision to locate
the facility on Reserve Avenue.

Joe Dashiell has the story.

But since then, they say their
research has confirmed their belief
that Elmwood Park is the best place to
put the facility.

During a news conference at the
old fire station number one, they
called for a 35-hundred seat
amphitheater, that would fit in the
current footprint of the park's concert
area

SHERMAN LEA/ROANOKE CITY COUNCIL: IT
CAN BE DOWNTOWN IN ELMWOOD PARK AND THE
MOST DELIGHTFUL THING THAT WE FOUND IN
OUR RESEARCH IS THAT WE CAN MAINTAIN
OUR GREEN SPACE.

Wishneff and Lea say public

pressure prevented the city from
building a stadium amphitheater at a
site near Orange Avenue, and they're
hopeful it will work again to bring the
new amphitheater to Elmwood park.

An Oregon man tied more than 100
balloons to this chair over the weekend
and flew almost 200 miles.

He says he reached an altitude of
13 thousand feet.

His nine hour flight ended in a
farmer's field.

This is the second time he's
taken a lawn chair flight.

The gas station owner says it's
the closest thing to jumping on a cloud
on a nice summer day.
