GRAPHIC=Murder Investigation Authorities are searching for a
suspect in a fatal stabbing in
Altavista.

Police were called to this
apartment complex in the 16-hundred
block of Toddbury Road just after
midnight for a reported disturbance.
That's where they found a
35-year-old male outside ... he'd been
stabbed several times in the chest.
The victim was pronounced dead at
the scene ... his identity has not been
released.
No arrest has been made, although
authorities are searching for someone
they believe was involved.
Police are looking for a 1985
blue Chevrolet four door vehicle with
license tag T-R-E-Y-S-8-5.
We'll have more details as they

in Roanoke after 18 years on the run.

Forty-year-old Thomas Manuel
Paige, Junior, arrived at the Roanoke
airport yesterday afternoon.
The U.S. Marshal believes Paige
has been in Jamaica ever since he
allegedly shot and killed several
people at an apartment on Staunton
Avenue in 1989.
Debra Salters and Slyvia Baker
died .... while Joyce Washington and
Wilford Branch survived the attack.
They helped identify Paige as the
shooter.

while trying to steal copper.

shocked and badly burned.

They were flown to the UVA
medical center and are listed in
critical condition with burns on more
than 60-percent of their bodies.

That's according to a study from
researchers at the Virginia-Maryland
Regional College of Veterinary
Medicine.

horses from more than 100 farms...and
found that 51-percent were overweight
or obese.
Early findings indicate the cause is
overeating and lack of exercise.

trying to put out the blaze scorching
parts of the Jefferson National Forest.

contained to the forest.

Pittsylvania county took the life of a
minor.
It happened yesterday morning on
the Danville Expressway just north of
Malmason Road.
Police say a Dodge van carrying
six people flipped over several times.
A minor died at the scene, another was
taken to Roanoke Memorial.
Everyone else was taken to Danville
Regional Medical center.
Police are still investigating.

this one in Appomattox County.
State Police say 55-year-old
Kenneth Marvin Jones was headed south
on Red House Road yesterday morning--
when a pickup headed the other
direction swerved into his lane.
Jones was killed.
His passenger, and the other
driver -- 45-year-old William Anthony
Martin of Appomattox, were taken to
Lynchburg General Hospital. Their
injuries were not believed to be
life-threatening.
Martin is charged with
reckless driving.
