and Micheal Moser remember their 8th
grade teacher Mr. Deloach.

He was simply known as "Mr. D" to
them, and others around Forest Middle
School where he was a teacher for
several years.

He described Mr. Deloach as a
fun, outgoing and a creative teacher.

So when they heard the news their
favorite teacher was now facing
criminal charges, it was unbelievable
and something they neither would have

nothing inappropriate every happened at

ended deadly for the man trying to get
away.

Deputies were after Justin Ryan
Smith of Forest, Virginia in the New
London Section of Bedford County.

Authorities say Smith lost
control of his Chevy Blazer on Bellevue
(BELLVIEW) Road, crashed into a tree
and was thrown from the S-U-V.

Deputies were trying to catch him
for wreckless driving.

He was pronounced dead at the
scene.

pulling out of his drive-way backed
into a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist died a short
time later at the hospital following
the crash around 2:30 this afternoon on
North Main Street.

Police say the victim 29-year-old
Tony Tyrone Kirby of Danville was going
South when a man driving a pick-up
truck collided with him.

So far no charges have been
filed.

The accident is under
investigation.

turkeys at a Shenandoah County farm is
going to carry a costly pricetag.

July 10 A federal agency says the
outbreak in 54-thousand turkeys could
run the farm up to 6 hundred-thousand
dollars.

However, the Department of
Agriculture will reimburse the farmer
the market value of the turkeys and the
U-S-D-A will also cover the cost of
destroying and disposing of the birds.

The discovery of the avian flu
last week has prompted increased
precautions and additional testing of
flocks in the region.

Fieldale Walking Trail.

The one mile hiking and biking
route officially opened this morning.

It runs along the old Danville
and Western rail bed, just above the
Smith River.

Congressmen Virgil Goode and Rick
Boucher were on hand to dedicate the
trail.

They're hoping outdoor activities
like this will add to Southside's
growing tourism industry.

Kinston added to a 4-3 lead in
the 7th. The bases were juiced for Max
Ramirez who delivers a base hit to left
good for an RBI and it was 5-3 Indians.

The very next batter, Wes
Hodges added another run scoring
single--this one to centerfield to make
it 6-3 visitors.

Salem tried to rally in the
late innings. The Avs got a run back
as Christopher Johnson fights off this
pitch into shallow right to plate *CG final Kinston Pat Osbourn, but it wasn't nearly 8 enough as Kinston won it 8 to 4. The Salem Avs return to action Tuesday night at 4 home against Frederick.

Field, the all star baseball portion of
the Commonwealth Games is in full
swing. The local entry from the West
got off on the right foot in this
morning's 2nd game against the East.

East vs. West--Commonwealth Games It was a picture perfect day for :00 baseball.

The West built on a 2-1 lead in
the third when Josh Holskey from Lord
Botetourt lifts a fly ball to
centerfield. That was deep enough to
bring in Pulaski County's Jared King
from third on the sacrifice fly for a
3-1 cushion.

Then in the 4th. Justin
Thompson from Tunstall stands in and
crushes this delivery over the wall in
left centerfield to make it a 4-1 game.

The West tacked on two more
and Mikey O'Brien from Hidden Valley did *CG final East the rest, allowing just one run on 1 three hits in picking up the win 6 to 1 West over the East. Tonight the West fell 6 to the Central. The action continues

season for coaches, and today the staff
at Virginia Tech got a glimpse of some
possible future Hokies at the second of
2 one day camps.

some testing, drills, and one on one
time with the coaches.

Several already have offers from

Kevin Newsome from Western

lineman David Wang, the younger brother
of the Hokies tight end Ed Wang, and
6-7, 331 pound offensive tackle Bobby
Massie from Lynchburg's Liberty
Christian. Massie has narrowed his
college choices to Tech, Clemson, and
