a federal

grand jury in Virginia indicted Atlanta
Falcons quarterback Michael Vick
yesterday.

with competitive dog fighting,
procuring and training pit bulls for it
and conducting the enterprise across
state lines.

The indictment alleges that Vick
and his co-defendants began sponsoring
dog fighting in early 2001, the former

the Falcons.

If convicted, Vick and the
others could face up to six years in
prison, $350,000 in fines and
restitution.

Family and friends say they found 51
year old Rick Evans and his motorcyle
in a ditch on Hollins Road near the
intersection of Orange Avenue
yesterday.

Police say skid marks on the roadway
suggest it was an accident.

Evans had been missing ever since he
hopped on his Harley Sunday evening to
go for a ride.

situated over Bermuda. This will keep
the heat and humidity locked in place
with a chance for scattered showers and
storms. Some of these storms may
produce heavy downpours, along with
strong winds, small hail and dangerous
lightning. Highs will remain near
normal through the week, but cooling by
the weekend as a front pushes through.

severe storm ripped the roof off of the
Virginia Museum of Transportation.

July 19, 2006 As the storm swept through downtown
Roanoke, it peeled back the museum's
roof, blew a roof-mounted air
conditioning unit to the ground, and
caused plenty of damage inside.

There's been a lot of work since to
repair the damage.

scheduled to grace the stage for the
upcoming season at the Jefferson
Center.

September, four new mini-series will be
rolled out featuring Appalachian music,

Organizers say the Jefferson

it can offer diverse programming and
not get stuck in one particular genre.

to spend 15 years in prison for
stabbing another man to death during an
argument last winter.

43-year-old James Edward Shaner was
convicted of second-degree murder
yesterday after a two-day trial.

24-year-old Ricky Bernard Evans during
an argument inside their Rivermont
Avenue boarding house.

Both men had been drinking prior to
the fight, and Shaner claimed he acted
in self defense.

trying to steal copper wire-- now the
city of Radford is helping the family
he left behind.

City officials say he had two small

with his girlfriend.

forest fire as a GOOD thing-- but it is
helping parts of Rockbridge County.

Forest service crews explain that
because the fire is only burning in the
wilderness, it's actually helping
nature, allowing nutrients into the
ground.

Firefighters are maintaining
control of the fire, while letting it
run its natural path. This allows them
to stay safe.

The fire now covers almost four
hundred acres and according to fire
crews, could burn a total of
11-thousand acres.
