OQ=Natasha Ryan News 7. < (END SOT) where investigators say it all

happened......

In court papers filed Tuesday,
Former Hokies Star Michael Vick and
three others, Purnell Peace, Quanis
Phillips and Tony Taylor were all
charged with one federal count of
illegal dog fighting...That includes
illegal gambling....sponsoring and
exhibiting dogs in dog fights......and

being involved in bringing dogs onto
the property specifically for fighting.

Accoring to the documents,back in
2001, which would have been Vick's
rookie year with the Falcons, Vick
"PURCHASED AND DEVELOPED A PARCEL OF
PROPERTY TO SERVE AS THE MAIN STAGING
AREA FOR HOUSING AND TRAINING PITT
BULLS INVOLVED IN THE ANIMAL FIGHTING
VENTURE AND FOR HOSTING DOG FIGHTS."

Authorities say the dog fighting
enterprise was known as Bad Newz
Kennels and all the key players had
code names..

And when dogs didn't perform well
authorities say they were
executed....Here are two specific
examples listed in the indictment......

IN "MARCH OF 2003, PEACE, AFTER
CONSULTING WITH VICK ABOU THE LOSING
FEMALE PITT BULL'S CONDITION, EXECUTED
THE LOSING DOG BY WETTING THE DOG DOWN
WITH WATER AND ELECTROCUING THE
ANIMAL."

The feds say those weren't the
only executions .....the idictment
lists this example from just a few
months ago.....

QUOTE "IN OR ABOUT APRIL 2007, PEACE,

PHILLIPS, AND VICK EXECUTED
APPROXIMATELY 8 DOGS THAT DID NOT
PERFORM WELL IN "TESTING" SESSIONS AT
1915 MOONLIGHT ROAD BY VARIOUS METHODS,
INLCUDING HANGING, DROWNING AND
SLAMMING AT LEAST ONE DOG'S BODY TO THE
GROUND." >>

Forest service crews explain that
because the fire is only burning in the
wilderness, it's actually helping

nature, allowing nutrients into the
ground.

Firefighters are maintaining
control of the fire, while letting it
run its natural path. This allows them
to stay safe.

The fire now covers almost four
hundred acres and according to fire
crews, could burn a total of
11-thousand acres.

yesterday at the State Corporation

A hearing examiner has suggested
Highland New Wind Development work with
the Game Department to monitor wildlife

Options include altering
operations around migration patterns.

But opponents aren't happy.

Many testified that eagles and
bats nest and search for food on or

The S-C-C is still considering
whether or not to give the company

In court papers filed Tuesday,
Former Hokies Star Michael Vick and
three others, Purnell Peace, Quanis
Phillips and Tony Taylor were all
charged with one federal count of
illegal dog fighting...That includes
illegal gambling....sponsoring and
exhibiting dogs in dog fights......and
being involved in bringing dogs onto
the property specifically for fighting.

Accoring to the documents,back in
2001, which would have been Vick's
rookie year with the Falcons, Vick
"PURCHASED AND DEVELOPED A PARCEL OF

PROPERTY TO SERVE AS THE MAIN STAGING
AREA FOR HOUSING AND TRAINING PITT
BULLS INVOLVED IN THE ANIMAL FIGHTING
VENTURE AND FOR HOSTING DOG FIGHTS."

Authorities say the dog fighting
enterprise was known as Bad Newz
Kennels and all the key players had
code names..

And when dogs didn't perform well
authorities say they were
executed....Here are two specific
examples listed in the indictment......

IN "MARCH OF 2003, PEACE, AFTER
CONSULTING WITH VICK ABOU THE LOSING
FEMALE PITT BULL'S CONDITION, EXECUTED
THE LOSING DOG BY WETTING THE DOG DOWN
WITH WATER AND ELECTROCUING THE
ANIMAL."

The feds say those weren't the
only executions .....the idictment
lists this example from just a few
months ago.....

QUOTE "IN OR ABOUT APRIL 2007, PEACE,
PHILLIPS, AND VICK EXECUTED
APPROXIMATELY 8 DOGS THAT DID NOT
PERFORM WELL IN "TESTING" SESSIONS AT
1915 MOONLIGHT ROAD BY VARIOUS METHODS,
INLCUDING HANGING, DROWNING AND

happened......

In court papers filed Tuesday,
Former Hokies Star Michael Vick and
three others, Purnell Peace, Quanis
Phillips and Tony Taylor were all
charged with one federal count of
illegal dog fighting...That includes
illegal gambling....sponsoring and
exhibiting dogs in dog fights......and
being involved in bringing dogs onto
the property specifically for fighting.

Accoring to the documents,back in
2001, which would have been Vick's
rookie year with the Falcons, Vick
"PURCHASED AND DEVELOPED A PARCEL OF

PROPERTY TO SERVE AS THE MAIN STAGING
AREA FOR HOUSING AND TRAINING PITT
BULLS INVOLVED IN THE ANIMAL FIGHTING
VENTURE AND FOR HOSTING DOG FIGHTS."

Authorities say the dog fighting
enterprise was known as Bad Newz
Kennels and all the key players had
code names..

And when dogs didn't perform well
authorities say they were
executed....Here are two specific
examples listed in the indictment......

IN "MARCH OF 2003, PEACE, AFTER
CONSULTING WITH VICK ABOU THE LOSING
FEMALE PITT BULL'S CONDITION, EXECUTED
THE LOSING DOG BY WETTING THE DOG DOWN
WITH WATER AND ELECTROCUING THE
ANIMAL."

The feds say those weren't the
only executions .....the idictment
lists this example from just a few
months ago.....

QUOTE "IN OR ABOUT APRIL 2007, PEACE,
PHILLIPS, AND VICK EXECUTED
APPROXIMATELY 8 DOGS THAT DID NOT
PERFORM WELL IN "TESTING" SESSIONS AT
1915 MOONLIGHT ROAD BY VARIOUS METHODS,
INLCUDING HANGING, DROWNING AND
SLAMMING AT LEAST ONE DOG'S BODY TO THE

GROUND." >>

bgrebe@wdbj7.com Kimberly, the phrase "something
for everyone" is probably the best way
to describe the list of performers
scheduled to grace the stage of the
Jefferson Center.

ENG#=1 VO NAT

VO NAT The schedules' diverse sounds
cover the musical spectrum... blues,
jazz, gospel, African pop, latino,
bluegrass, and country.

As the season approaches in
September, four new mini-series will be
rolled out featuring Appalachian music,
jazz music, world music and a series
called Roanoke Live that showcases
local and regional performers.

Organizers say the Jefferson
Center is in a unique situation where
it can offer diverse programming and
not get stuck in one particular genre.

In addition to the wide variety
of performance art the Jefferson Center
offers, the organization also started a
new education program where the artists
will go into local schools to teach
music to the students.

And speaking of sharing music
with a younger audience... the
Jefferson Center is offering kids
tickets for only one-dollar for its FNB
Family Series.

That offer's good when combined
with an adult ticket that is purchased
at full price.
