In a rare move, Virginia's
Democratic governor joined G-O-P
lawmakers today to defend the
Commonwealth's controversial new fines
on bad drivers.

generate about 50- million dollars,

lawmakers say the main goal is
safety... since 900 to one- thousand
people die on Virginia roads each year.

Yesterday Panel Chairman Gerald Massengill
says it's important for Virginians to
see how the panel works and to get an
idea of how the final report is being
compiled.

There will be NO public comment
at that meeting.

The time and location will be set
next week.

Meanwhile, panel members met in
closed session today to discuss
information protected by privacy laws.


Some victims' relatives are
asking the panel to identify issues
beyond their scope so they can be
reviewed by a federal commission later.

Governor Kaine today said he
doesn't think a federal review is
necessary.

Stroupe shot Tiffany Brewer in
the chest. She was 22 and died several
hours later.

22, 2009.

So far, four people have been
hospitalized with botulism. That's a
rare, muscle-paralyzing disease caused
by a toxin... a toxin so potent that
just touching it can make you sick.

The F-D-A has sent experts to
Castleberry's plant in Georgia to
investigate.
