Meanwhile, Iraq's foreign minister is
confirming a new round of talks between
the U-S and Iran taking place tomorrow.

The talks come amid repeated U- S

support to Shi'ite militias in Iraq,
and supplies the insurgency with
explosives targeting U-S forces.

And just yesterday, the U-S military
nabbed two suspected weapons smugglers

OQ=Tim Saunders, News 7, Bedford << This building has seen a lot of
(END SOT) uses in the last hundred years.

It's been a high school and an
elementary school.

But since the late 80's, it's
mostly just been used for storage.

Now - city council is hoping to
re-open the building, with a little
help from the public.

"WE'RE HOPING THAT SOMEONE OUT
THERE HAS THE RESOURCES AND A HOPE OR A
DREAM OF WHAT THE BUILDING COULD BE
USED FOR."

The city wants your ideas on how

to transform the property.

Officials say it could be used
for anything from a private business to
a youth center.

"WE'RE HOPING THERE'S AN IDEA OUT
THERE FOR A INDIVIDUAL OR A GROUP THAT
WE HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF."

City leaders do have a few
concerns about this property. One is
the lack of parking. There are only a
few spaces in front of the building
itself. The building is also right
next to Bedford Middle School - and
having a school so close by could end
up limiting the type of business that
comes in here.

"THERE ARE CERTAIN LIMITS ON THE
SIZE AND THE SCOPE AND THE NATURE OF
THE BUSINESS."

The building itself also needs a
lot of work - both inside and out.

Parents at the middle school have
complained about debris falling off the
building - putting students in danger.

That's why officials say the old

school needs to be fixed up now.

"WE ARE EITHER GOING TO HAVE TO
SPEND SOME SIGNIFICANT DOLLARS
STABILIZING IT, OR TEAR IT DOWN. OR
FIND AN ALTERNATE USE FOR IT."

Tearing it down is a last resort.

That's why they're looking for
anyone with a vision for what this
building could become.

"WE'LL BE GLAD TO TALK WITH
PEOPLE ABOUT THEIR IDEAS. JUST
REMEMBER, THEY NEED TO BE SERIOUS IDEAS
AND THEY NEED TO HAVE SERIOUS RESOURCES
AND SERIOUS MONEY BEHIND IT."

Officials hope to make a final
decision on the building's fate in the
next six months.

So while time may be running out
for this old school, the doors aren't
closed for good just yet.

THE MAY 28 SIT-DOWN MARKED A BREAK IN A

BUT RELATIONS HAVE BEEN SLOW TO

IRAQ'S FRAGILE GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN
PRESSING FOR ANOTHER MEETING BETWEEN
THE

TWO NATIONS, AND IRAN HAS REPEATEDLY
SIGNALED ITS WILLINGNESS TO SIT DOWN.

WHILE THE U-S HAS OPENED THE DOOR TO
TEHRAN TO WORK TOGETHER....MANY

you reach out to the Iranian regime

The last thing the U-S can get out of
Iran is a concession on Iraq."

BUT UNDER INCREASING PRESSURE TO SHOW
PROGRESS, THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION HOPES

WORKING WITH THE IRANIAN REGIME WILL
LEAD TO SOME KIND OF SUCCESS.

The talks will focus solely on the
situation in Iraq, not U-S/Iran

and there will be no discussion of

driving... and they're equally mad at
the politicians who are defending the
fees.

Barry Cundiff had this question for
politicians:

"why don't you put a higher tax on the
petroleum industry's profits to help
build our roads? You don't mind taxing
us to death. If you really want a new
road, spend some quality time on the
work sites and make a real difference
in our state. Exercise some real pride
and sweat equity of being a Virginian."

A view in Radford wrote:

"I have read and listened to all the
comments from our elected officials on
the new Civil Remedial fees and it
seems that all of them now want to tell
us how dumb we are and we do not
understand the new laws and we need to
be educated. "

And there was this message from Carolyn
Wyatt in Wytheville:

"Is this how they repay us for their
wealth and support? I'm not against any
laws as long as they are fair!"

But Gary Boyer had a message for
drivers:

"The public needs to be reminded that
operating a motor vehicle upon the
highways of the Commonwealth of
Virginia is a privilege and NOT a
right, and the Commonwealth has a duty
to regulate this privilege."

And while we heard from some viewers
about Michael Vick's trouble, many were
more upset about dogfighting video we
used in the stories.
