Authorities know some possibly all of
the missing victims from Wednesday s

Minneapolis bridge collapse are
entombed in submerged cars, but
recovering

them from the treacherous Mississippi
River is proving to be dangerous and

slow.

Sot: Sheriff Rich Stanek/Hennepin
County Sheriff

This morning we identified 5 vehicles,
we cleared 4 with no victims found.

Teams of divers are taking turns
examining targets identified by
side-scan

sonar, however some targets could turn
out to be debris or empty cars. An

estimated 60 vehicles plunged into the
river. Several victims have now been

identified including 60 year old Sherry
Engebreteson and 32 year old Julia

Blackhawk.

(Natz Mrs. Bush)

While the recovery efforts pushed
forward.First Lady Laura Bush toured
the

devastation. She thanked first
responders for their efforts.

Sot: Laura Bush

(Belton bridge)

Finding the cause of this disaster
could take up to a year. Investigators

plan to gather as many pieces the

bridge as possible and put it back
together

like a giant jigsaw puzzle.

(video of collapse)

Investigators will also be relying
heavily this video captured by the Army

Corp of Engineers to try to figure out
why the bridge crumbled. Metal

fatigue, heavy traffic and corrosion
are among the causes being explored.

(natz at river)

As the search for answers begin..
others searched for solace... some
dropped

flowers into the Mississippi River...
in memory of those who died here.

This evening we will check in
with the Northside Vikings who suffered
through a tough season in year number 1
under Burt Torrance. But there is
reason for optimism at Northside.

The Vikings had 9 Freshman letter
last season and should benefit from
that youth being experienced.

We will have much more with
Northside coming tonight on News 7 at
6.
