affecting traffic on Interstate 81 in
Montgomery County.

But there were NO
life-threatening injuries.

This Morning State police say a pick- up truck
traveling northbound on Interstate 81
drove off the left side of the road and
hit the guardrail, knocking it into the
roadway.

An SUV and a tractor trailer BOTH
ran into it.

A tire was damaged on the tractor
trailer, causing the driver to run off
the right shoulder and onto the 109
exit ramp.

Exit 109 will be closed for
several hours while crews work to move

the tractor trailer and repair the
guardrail.

The tragedy at Virginia Tech
helped speed up the program in

poisoned...and now the owner wants to
make sure pet owners are on guard.

:00 Steven Smith found one of his
cats dead outside his home last week.

Two others were staggering
around, and later died.

Nearby, Smith said he found deer
meat covered with what he thought was
some kind of poison.

He took the cats and meat to the
Virginia Tech Vet School, and doctors
there confirmed that the three cats
died of anti-freeze poisoning.

Smith said he spent about
400-dollars trying to save the cats.

controversy, a Virginia judge has ruled
abuser fees are unconstitutional.

A Henrico County judge issued
that opinion yesterday.


He says dangerous drivers are
just that... whether they're from
Virginia or not and should be treated
the same.

Dangerous drivers from other
states face criminal prosecution when
they break Virginia laws and the judge
doesn't think abuser fees are any
different.

The ruling only applies to
drivers prosecuted in Henrico County,
but similar challenges are expected to
explode.

collapse in Minneapolis, The Virginia
Department of Transportation is

reviewing its records to identify
bridges of similar age and design.

But officials say there is no
reason to believe that any bridge in
our state is "in danger of collapse."

There are more than 20- thousand
bridges in Virginia, and more than
three thousand in the 12 counties that
make up V-DOT's Salem District.

Bridge Inspectors like David
Smith don their safety equipment and
take a closer look to insure that aging
structures remain sound.

The state adheres to national
standards and inspects its bridges at
least every two years, but many are
reviewed more often than that.
