"no" for now to a controversial plan to
redevelop Countryside Golf Course.

cars back to Roanoke may take years and
millions of dollars, but the city is
now hoping a different type of trolley
will soon hit the streets of downtown.

Valley Metro is working on a
shuttle that would connect the city
market area with Carilion Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.
The service would be free, and
passengers would make the trip from one
end to the other in about ten minutes.
The city is now talking with
Carilion and Downtown Roanoke
Incorporated on possible funding, and
officials hope to have a rubber tired
trolley or other type of shuttle bus
operating by the end of next summer.

following Hill's death over the weekend

After two months, authorities
caught up with Jason Faulkner Sunday
night at an apartment complex in
Figsboro where several of his family
members stay - including his mother.
Yesterday, his mother spoke out,
wanting the public to know her son is
not the cold blooded killer he's been
made out to be.

yesterday...
As a dump truck hit a car head
on.

along Horseshoe Bend Road.
The driver of the dump truck was
apparently swatting a bee away when he
swered into an oncoming lane... the
truck hit a vehicle driven by Joni
Williams of Goodview- her ten year old
son was also in the car.
The crash flipped Williams' car.
No one had any life-threatening
injuries.
The driver of the dump truck was
charged with reckless driving.

going out of business.
Brambleton Drug has been a
fixture in southwest Roanoke County for
almost 40 years.
It will "merge" its business with
the nearby Cave Spring Kroger store.
Kroger's offered all ten of the
employees jobs.
Brambleton Drug's last day is
August 24th.
Prescription and medication
records will be transferred to Kroger
the next day.

:00 Around 4-30 yesterday afternoon,
a smoke machine was activated outside
the library, and a call was made to
R-U's dispatch alerting them of an
emergency drill.
The machine was supposed to
simulate a hazardous material spill or
terrorist attack.
The purpose of the exercise was
to test the university's emergency
response protocols.
Two outside agencies were on hand
to evaluate yesterday's drill.
