One of two drills boring into a Utah

"We will put cameras down, we will
establish audio communication, we can

provide air, we can provide
sustenance."

The closest drill is digging a 2 and
a half inch wide hole.. the

second...eight inch wide drill....will
likely break through tomorrow.

There is a chance both will miss their
target 1500 feet below and crews will

have to start all over.

(natz full), this is where the rescue
operation is going on."

if all goes well.. The men will
eventually leave through this tunnel,
the same

one that collapsed early Monday
morning. Mine rescue teams are digging

underground around the clock, but they
are still an estimated 6 days away from

reaching the stranded miners .

sot:Laine Adair/Mine Manager, Rescue

Coordinator

" We are doing the very best we know
how and we definintely know how."

(Gwen Belton bridge/Huntington, UT)

There has been no communication with
the miners since they were trapped 4

days ago and that is especially hard on
anxious family members.

Some appear frustrated with mine
company officials.

sot: Maria Buenrostro/Sister of Trapped

Miner

"We want the truth, they is all we are
asking right now. If there is nothing

they can do about it, just tell us, so
we know what to expect when they bring

them out."

But most are not ready to give up.
All along, mine owners have said there

is likely plenty of air and water in
the mine...and if the drills

continue to make progress ...there is
a possibility... rescue teams could be

speaking with the men before the day's
end.

:00 Highly- touted freshman Will
Alvarez reported to camp yesterday for
his first practice with the Hokies.

Alvarez is waiting to have his
transcript approved by the NCAA
Clearinghouse, and Frank Beamer says he
believes that will happen soon.

Alvarez would be at offensive
tackle.

Tech is considered thin in that
area after losing Ed Wang for up to two
months with a broken ankle.

Alvarez is a six-five - 315 pound
lineman from C.D. Hylton high school in
Woodbridge.

He practiced in shorts yesterday,
and by next Monday he will be in full
pads

UVA Practice The Cavs are getting their first :00 live look at quarterback Jameel Sewell,
since he missed all of spring practice
due to a wrist injury.

All indications are that he is
ready to roll.

But a large number of the UVA
players have other things on their
minds right now.

Many had final exams yesterday
and a large group will be taking finals
today.

Tomorrow's afternoon's practice
begins at 2:30, and is open to the
public.
