Derrick Mcfarland and Eric Sutphin were
shot and killed in Montgomery County.

prisioner at the time - was being
treated at Montgomery Regional Hospital
when he escaped custody and killed
McFarland - a hospital security officer
there.
While on the run, they say he
also murdered Sutphin, who was a

Morva is charged with captial
murder and set to stand trial next
month.

in the SkyTracker 7 Forecast Center.
No records were broken today for a
change. We've been close to 100 the
last three days, however, today was
more tolerable temperature-wise with
lower humdity. The comfortable
conditions stay with us tonight with
lows in the low and mid 60s under
mostly clear skies. Some areas of fog
may develop, especially in the
Highlands and the New River Valley
overnight. High pressure will channel
in dry air Sunday with mostly sunny
skies and highs in the mid and upper
80s. That's still warm, but like today
the humidity will be in check. A ridge
from the Great Plains will return early
next week ahead of a cold front. Highs
Monday are forecast in the low and mid
90s with higher humidity. Rain chances
look really low with Monday's front.
Our next chance of rain doesn't come
until Thursday or Friday, when a few
showers accompany a slow moving cold
front. Highs for the next seven days
will be near 85 to 90. Have a great

first of three preseason scrimmages
leading up to the September 1st opener
against East Carolina.

Early on, number 2 quarterback
Ike Whitaker was showing off some
wheels. He makes a nice gain after
some solid coverage downfield.
The defense came to play as
well. Check out Orion Martin as he
blows up Dustin Pickle after no gain.
Danville's Kenny Lewis did find
some running room though, taking the
handoff from Sean Glennon and ripping
off a first down right up the gut.
Later, Cory Holt gets into the
act. He calls his own number from the
16, scrambles and eventually stretches
across the goal line for a score. The
Hokies will take Sunday off and resume
practice on Monday.

been brought in to replace a legend.
That's the case in Radford this
summer as the Bobcats opened up high
school football practice for the first
time since 1970 without Norm Lineburg
as the team's head coach.

high school coach - part mentor and
part father figure.
His replacement Matthew Saunders
knows that all too well, because he's a
