police identified Gary Bowman as a
possible witness.

They eventually cleared him of

Cowpasture River.

Around six o'clock last night
emergency crews got the call that the
child was in trouble.

They pulled Derrick Beirne Burn
out of the water.

He later died at Alleghany

was found dead in her bed this morning
-- and police say her death looks

suspicious.

The victim, Amanda Twaney, lived
in the four hundred block of Williamson
Road.

Police say a family member found
her around 9:45 A-M.

Detectives have not said why her
death is raising eyebrows but they've
sent her body to the medical examiner's
office for an autopsy.

clearing skies. Low temperatures are
forecast around the mid 60s with a
light breeze. Just ahead of a cool
front, temperatures rapidly warm Monday
into the low and mid 90s. A stray

afternoon, but most of the region is
expected to stay dry. Gusty winds may
accompany any storm which develops.

METEOR SHOWER: The annual Perseid
meteor shower will occur tonight

(Sunday night). The Roanoke Valley
Astronomical Society will hold a free
public viewing beginning at 9:00p.m. at
the Cahas Mountain Overlook (mile post
139 on the Blue Ridge Parkway). The
event lasts until after midnight. Most
meteors won't be seen until after
11:30p.m.

season. Jeff Gordon started on the
pole at Watkins Glen today as he went
after his 5th win at the track.

Harvick and Montoya then had some
choice words for each other in the
aftermath.

on the point, but lost the back end in
turn one giving up the lead to Tony
Stewart.

Smoke then held on to take the

at the Glen.
