dignitaries are scheduled to attend the
funeral of Oliver Hill in Richmond
today.

He was a civil rights lawyer who
helped outlaw segregated public
schools, and he grew up right here in
Roanoke.

passed away.

Irene Morgan Kirkaldy kirk-aldy
has died at the age of 90 in Newport
News.

Kirkaldy was a black woman whose
refusal to give up her bus seat to
white passengers triggered a landmark
U.S. Supreme Court decision more than a
decade before Rosa Parks gained
recognition for doing the same.

Derrick McFarland and Eric Sutphin were
shot and killed in Montgomery County.

August 2006 Police say William Morva - a
prisoner at the time - was being
treated at Montgomery Regional Hospital
when he escaped custody and killed
McFarland - a hospital security officer
there.

While on the run, they say he
also murdered Sutphin, who was a
sheriff's deputy.

Morva is charged with capital
murder and set to stand trial next
month.

Valley are warning the elderly to be
extra cautious.

Apparently, two dark skinned men
- possibly Indian or Hispanic - are
approaching the homes of older people
who live alone claiming they are with a
government agency or the police
department.

Investigators say one of the men
distracts the home owner while the
other goes inside to steal stuff.

They were seen driving a silver
S-U-V and a gray van at one point.

is investigating a shooting that
happened Thursday at King's Mill

Trailer Park in Ridgeway.

About seven people were inside a
mobile home when someone fired at it
while driving-by.

Lula Mae Moore of Stoneville,
North Carolina was wounded and is in
critical condition at Martinsville
Memorial Hospital.

The gunfire also damaged three
vehicles and a second mobile home.

Disease prevention operations
have been stepped-up in an attempt to
halt the spread of flood-related
illnesses across northern India.

Villagers have been spraying
disinfectant throughout buildings to
stave off a disease epidemic, following
two weeks of monsoon rains and
flooding.

The monsoon season runs from June
to September as the rains work their
way across the subcontinent.

Over 2,000 people have died this
year, double the number killed last
year due to floods.

Tens of thousands were left
without power on Saturday morning when
thunderstorms rolled through the Twin
Cities.

The severe weather produced
straight line winds as high as 70 miles
per hour.

Anywhere from one to three inches
of rain fell, which sped up the current
in the Mississippi River.

The conditions forced officials
to temporarily call off the search for
victims in the Interstate 35 bridge
collapse.
