Tech in April has prompted a conference
today in Richmond on campus safety.

Governor Tim Kaine called the
conference following the Tech shootings
that left 33 dead, including the
gunman.

Representatives from all state
higher education institutions were
invited to attend the conference.

It's being held at Virginia
Commonwealth University.

yesterday to honor the Short family.

Mike and Mary Short were found
shot dead in their home five years ago
in Henry County.

Their nine-year-old daughter
Jennifer was found a month and a half

later in North Carolina.

the Shorts' home in Henry County, to
the site in North Carolina where
police found Jennifer's remains.

They hope their efforts generate
new interest about the case.

Reba Sink plans to leave a

Sink hopes it will jar somebody's
memory because she's convinced the
truth is still out there.

Program.

Qualifying area businesses and
organizations can apply to receive a
free bicycle rack and installation.

Bicycling is called the cleanest
form of commuting and, of course, an
excellent form of recreation.

night, emergency crews got the call
that the child was in trouble.

Witnesses say he was last seen on
a raft before he went under.

Eventually Derrick Beirne Burn

He later died at Alleghany
Regional Hospital.

was found dead in her bed.

And police say her death looks
suspicious.

The victim, Amanda Twaney, lived

Road.

Police say a family member found

her around 9:45 yesterday morning.

Detectives have not said why her
death is raising eyebrows but they've
sent her body to the medical examiner's

Sam Rasoul (Ras-ool) is vying for
the 6th district seat in the U-S House
of Representatives.

Yesterday, Rasoul offered hair
cuts for one dollar to help parents
alleviate those costly back-to-school
expenses.

The candidate is also running an
ice cream truck around the area with
free treats.

He admits his tactics are a
little out of the ordinary, but he
hopes this will help attract some
positive attention to his campaign.
