area farms, lakes, and now several
localities.

VO-NAT Today, Pittsylvania County issued a

burn ban. It means until further
notice, no one can set fire to brush,
leaves, or grass.

And in Charlottesville, city council
has instituted mandatory water
restrictions which means residents
can't water their grass or gardens.

This week, Appalachian Power
announced the dry weather is forcing
the company to cut back the amount of
water it's releasing from the Lake.

APCO says in recent days lake levels
have dropped because there's been no
rain, and that's causing safety
concerns.

down about six feet. You may remember
during the drought of 2002, it was more
than thirty four feet below the
spillway and that was a record.

ago with his family to work as a
missionary.

inside a Utah coal mine.

The Mine Safety and Health
Administration says nine rescue workers
were hurt in an accident at the
Crandall Canyon mine.

They were working to find the six
trapped miners who have been
underground for 11 days now.

An unidentified official at that
hospital says there was a "mountain
bump" inside the mine.

A bump commonly refers to
pressure inside the mine that shoots

coal from the walls with great force.

officer still on duty after a car
accident this morning.

Melvin Todd ran in front of his car.

Todd's family says that's

facing first degree murder charges,

facing a total of 11 charges in the
death of 19-year-old Marion Franklin.

In June 2003, Franklin died from
an apparent drug overdose after a photo

prosecutor Chris Rehak off the case.

Shell's expert witnesses were
approved, and an attempt by Shell to
keep a morphine bottle out of trial..

still have not struck a deal.

until 9:00 tomorrow morning to make a
deal, or he'll face new- -much more

courthouse in Richmond, where the last
two of those charged with Vick are
scheduled to enter guilty pleas

The town is going after its own
zoning board.

this month that a new law limiting the
size of development could not be
applied to the project of an Ohio
developer.

Fairmount Properties is planning
a huge shopping center off South Main
Street that may include a Walmart.

The town council voted
unanimously this week to ask a
Montgomery County judge to overturn the
zoning board's decision.

Developers plan to break ground
on the project in one month.

Tuesday State inspectors shut down the
crew hall Tuesday, after finding
expired medication and equipment on

ambulances.

Volunteers worked almost around
the clock to fix the problems, and the
crew was back in service late this
morning.

Squad President Gerald Campbell
confirms the number of volunteers has
fallen off in recent years.

Where they once had more than 50
on call, they're now down to 20
peoplle... even as call volume has more
than doubled.

a Full-Ride after 2 years at Tech.

Good News for the Hokies
offensive Line as well. This coming
from the N-C-A-A. Will Alvarez has
been cleared for full Athletic
participation. Alvarez reported to
Practice last week well awaiting
official word from the N-C-A-A Clearing
House.

to reconnect lost pets with their
owners.

The SPCA has started putting
microchips in all dogs and cats adopted
from the facility.

If the pet is lost, animal
control officers can use a scanner to
pick up a code from the microchip.

That code will help track down
the owner.

The center says 95 percent of

they will be returned home.
