beginning a new effort to sort out the
future of Norris Hall.

Today, the university

announced a committee to find new uses
for the rooms.

Members hope to have a
recommendation by December.

lawsuit over the shootings appears
likely.

Families of seven students
killed inside Norris Hall have hired a
Washington D-C law firm, though no
suits have been filed yet.

Their attorney says the
lawsuits generally are expected to
claim negligence and federal civil
rights violations. He added that the
report by the governor's panel that
investigated the shootings supports
negligence claims.

County Sheriff Frank Cassell Castle may

not have to serve any more than a year
in prison.

for sentencing next week.

U-S sentencing guidelines suggest
a range of six to 12 months in his
case.

While the corruption scandal
started out as case of gun-running and
drug trafficking in the sheriff's
office, money laundering, even
racketeering, Cassell admitted only to
lying to federal investigators.

The government is asking the
judge to consider imposing a sentence
Tuesday above the 12-month guideline
range.

rest of his life behind bars...after
entering an Alford plea in court today.

20 year-old Johnathan Webb

maintains he's innocent but admits
there's enough evidence against him.

With that, the judge found him
guilty of abduction, rape and forcible
sodomy.

They say Webb told her he would
give her a ride then attacked her at

for help quickly turned into a police
chase that lasted for miles...

It all started yesterday
afternoon and ended with police

VO-NAT arresting 44 year-old John Louis

Von Ohlsen.

A woman called the sheriff's
office to say someone was following
her.

When police got there, they found
Von Ohlsen hiding beside the victim's
car with his hand in her window.

The department says Von Ohlsen
sped off after an investigator
identified herself.

Interstate 81 and eventually caught
him.

They've charged him with several
felonies including abduction and
eluding police.

He's due in court October 12th.

Center. The high temperature today in
Roanoke was 92 and the low was 64.
Locally tonight, skies are clear and
winds are light. The rest of the week
will feature clear skies as high
pressure stays in control of the local
weather scene. Friday will be another
steamy day with highs heading toward
90. Right now, it looks like the
non-tropical low pressure off the east
coast will not be much of a factor in

our weekend forecast. Besides some high
cloudiness, and maybe a stray shower,
overall we'll expect a pleasant weekend
as the low stays to our east and a
sluggish front stays to our north and
west. Highs over the weekend will be
around the upper 80s to near 90.
Sharply cooler temperatures are
forecast to arrive later next week.

Yesterday Denny Garkey might as well be the
main character in the movie "A Field of
Dreams."

He's constructing a replica of
the Chicago Cubs' Wrigley Field about
100 miles west of Chicago, in Freeport.

After five years of work, the
little cubs field, a third the size of
Wrigley Field, is set to open in the
spring for whiffle ball, kickball, and
youth baseball games.
