single venue concert in the history of
Western Virginia.

Center. The high temperature today in
Roanoke was 92 and the low was 64.
Locally tonight, skies are clear and
winds are light. The rest of the week
will feature clear skies as high
pressure stays in control of the local
weather scene. Friday will be another
steamy day with highs heading toward
90. Right now, it looks like the
non-tropical low pressure off the east
coast will not be much of a factor in
our weekend forecast. Besides some high
cloudiness, and maybe a stray shower,
overall we'll expect a pleasant weekend
as the low stays to our east and a
sluggish front stays to our north and
west. Highs over the weekend will be
around the upper 80s to near 90.

facing up to a year in prison...

federal court for sentencing next week.

U-S sentencing guidelines suggest
a range of six to 12 months in his
case.

While the corruption scandal
started out as case of gun-running and

drug trafficking in the sheriff's
office, money laundering, even
racketeering, Cassell admitted only to
lying to federal investigators.

The government is asking the
judge to consider imposing a sentence
Tuesday above the 12-month guideline
range.

students killed in the Virginia Tech
shootings have retained a law firm that
specializes in high-profile wrongful
death cases.

One of the attorneys told the
Washington Post the families are
considering wrongful death suits and a
federal civil rights claim against the
state.

The lawyers say families believe
university officials could have done
more to prevent the shootings.

into the Post-Season.

The Avs didn't make it easy on

Josh Rodriguez in the Bottom of the

The Avs will play Game 3 tomorrow
night in Kinston with a trip to the

Commonwealth Games This time it's Pulaski County's
Jared King who has given a verbal
committment to play ball for Brian
O'Connor at the University of Virginia.

The Cavaliers beat out VMI,
Liberty, Radford and Virginia Tech for
King's Services. He has played 7 years
of travel baseball for coach Steve
Stilwell, but cemented himself as an
A-C-C player at this summer's
Commonwealth Games.

Jared had 9 hits and a homer for
the West squad in four games in front
of the scouts.

King who is in his Senior Year at
Pulaski then showed the U-V-A Coaches
that he could play Shortstop for them
last month at a showcase tournament at
JMU.
