students killed in the Virginia Tech
shootings have retained a law firm that
specializes in high-profile wrongful
death cases.

One of the lawyers told the
Washington Post the families are
considering wrongful death suits and a
federal civil rights claim against the
state.

The lawyers say the families believe
university officials could have done
more to prevent the shootings.

U-S Senators are hearing today from
the head of an independent panel on the
status of Iraq's security forces.

The panel's report says Iraqi's
appear far from ready to take over the
fight against insurgents.

forces launched an early- morning raid
