convicted on all three charges.
Instead, he pled guilty as part
of the vast drug conspiracy with the
Henry County Sheriff's Department.
Sentencing guidelines called for
zero to six months behind bars in
Preston's case.
The judge said Preston needed to
"get a taste of what jail is like."
So James Turk ordered Preston to
serve 30 days.
Preston may qualify for work
release, meaning he'd spend the night
in jail, but go to work during the day
for a month.
Drug dealer Ronald Trantham got a
30-MONTH sentence today... for his part
in the racketeering conspiracy.
Trantham admits he bought drugs
from sheriff's deputy James Vaught.

Beaumont.

depression, but forecasters say it
hovered over water longer than expected
and quickly gained strength overnight.

No evacuations were ordered, but the
Texas Governor mobilized swift water
rescue teams and about 200 soldiers
just in case.
People in Louisiana are also feeling
Humberto's wrath as the storm tracks
east. It will likely weaken over land,
but will still dump huge amounts of
rain. Some areas may get up to 15
inches.
And that's a big concern in Texas after
one of the wettest summers in decades.
With the ground already
saturated.officials say it won't take
much for rain
waters to become flood waters.

Some breaking news right
now-- authorities in Bath and
Alleghany Counties are investigating an
assault by someone pretending to be a
police officer.
The Alleghany County
Sheriff's office reports that a a
43-year-old woman said she was followed
all the way from Troutville to
Covington early yesterday morning.
The tailing car eventually
turned on a blue flashing light near
Falling Springs School on Falls Road.
A man in a dark uniform
made her get out of the car, then made
a sexual comment and hit her in the
face.
The victim says she
kicked him and was able to escape. She
drove to the Bath County sheriff's
office and was taken to the hospital.
Investigators hope to
have a composite drawing soon, but the
suspect appeared to be in his early
40's with a mustache and wire-rimmed
glasses.

This Morning Workers began installing the glass
for the 80-foot atrium this morning.
In the next few weeks, 785 panels of
high-performance glass will be put into
place.

football star Tiki Barber will be back
in the Star City tonight.
Barber will make an appearance on
behalf of "Valley Forward", a
relatively new group formed by young
professionals in the Roanoke Valley.
The group is holding a "Forum
for the Future" at the Roanoke Civic
Center from 5-to-9 p.m.
Barber agreed to serve as the
event's guest speaker at the request of
his former UVA teammate - Walt Derey
dairy .

French extreme climber Alain Robert,
can add another iconic building to his
impressive resume, after scaling
Barcelona's Agbar Tower.
Robert climbed to the top of Europe's
tallest building, in less than 30
minutes using a ladder.
Police didn't try to stop the so-called
French Spiderman- but they did detain
him afterward.
The French daredevil is no stranger
to controversy, having been arrested
several times for climbing more than 70
of the world's tallest structures.
