Marines in Virginia. His trip comes on

same day Congress received a mandated
Iraq progress report. The sobering
assessment by the white house reveals
Iraqi leaders have gained little
ground toward meeting key military and
security goals.

President Bush acknowledged Iraq s
political problems in his address to
the
nation last night. But he also said
his controversial troops surge is
working.

The President said 57-hundred U-S
forces will be home by Christmas
instead of
springtime. And 4 combat brigades will
pull out as scheduled next July.

his plan only cuts troops to presurge
levels.. something that was already

And now that Congress has officially
received a second discouraging progress
report on Iraq..the President s critics

assessment says the Iraqis have only
made gains in one of those failed areas
