Jefferson Motor Lodge sent residents of
the motel and nearby office workers
into the street, and cut power to most
of downtown Roanoke.
No one was injured, but at this
hour, authorities are still working to
resolve the problem.

A contractor was drilling in the
parking lot of the Motor Lodge, when
the equipment hit a power line beneath
the pavement.
The rig was in flames when
firefighters arrived, and the smoke
travelled through conduit to the
Western Virginia Water Authority
Building across the street.
That building was evacuated after
firefighters detected unusual levels of
carbon monoxide.

President Bush has made his pick to
fill the top spot at the Justice
Department.. he introduced Attorney
General nominee Michael Mukasey at a
Rose
Garden ceremony this morning.

Mukasey served on the federal bench for
18 years.. and retired after six
years as chief judge leading the U-S
District Court for the Southern
District
of New York.

Mukasey.. now 66.. presided over
thousands of cases including the
high-profile
terror trial of Sheik Omar
Abdel-Rahman.. who was accused of
plotting to
destroy New York City landmarks.
BRIDGE The White House says it
consulted lawmakers from both parties
on the
nomination in an effort to avoid a
fierce confirmation battle . Some in
the
GOP have complained Mukasey isn t
conservative enough.
The New York native has picked up
endorsements from liberals in the past.
Democratic Senator Charles Schumer says
he believes Mukasey would put the rule
of law first and show independence from
the White House.
Those were two of the chief complaints
against former Attorney General Alberto
Gonzales.. who left office Friday with
questions still swirling about an
administration terrorist surveillance
program and the firings of eight U-S

Zoo workers had to pass several
tests including how well they take care
of it's animal, train staff, and create

Franklin County is finally coming to an
end.

This home in Glade Hill is still
under construction but the Holland
family expects to finish restoring it
this week.
The log cabin been a part of
their family for several decades.
The home was originally built in
the early 1800's.
The owners want it listed as a
historical landmark for Virginia.
They've poured a lot of work in
it --- to make that happen.

GRAPHIC=Nextel Cup Clint Bowyer Boyer grew up in
Kansas, racing everything on dirt,
including motorcycles.
But thanks to a chance call from
Richard Childress, Bowyer Boyer is
right in the mix to win a Nextel Cup
Championship, following yesterday's
Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire.

Ward Burton early in the race, which
brought out the caution flag.
Chaser Kurt Busch lost a cylinder
and a whole lot of ground in the Chase,
on his way to a 25th place finish.
The caution waved again thanks
to A- J Allmendinger, who tangled with
Dave Blaney, planting the CAT machine
in the wall.
Bowyer Boyer avoided all the
trouble, leading a whopping 222 of the
300 laps, in winning his first Cup
Series race in his 64th career start.
In the process, he moved from 12th to
4th in the points.

But how about an apprentice in a bull
ring?

Rafael Mirabal is only 11..but he's
preparing for his debut in one of the
most famous bullfighting arenas in
Latin America.
He's already a bit of a veteran.
His father says Rafael started
training to be a Matador when he was
only five.
As you can see, the animal gave the
boy quite a tumble and even trampled
him-- but Rafael walked away just
fine-- and the audience applauded his
bravery.
