BEEN EASY. afternoon, crews were getting this VO NAT field ready for play.


You amy remember this was
supposed to be done weeks ago, but a
delay by the manufacturer forced the
school system to move the first two


home games.


It's been a race against time
getting the field ready for tonight's
home game.


Typically it takes 21 to 30 days
to install the turf. Crews have done it
in just 13 days.


In fact, we're told for the last
three nights workers have been here til
two in the morning.

got those asbestos tests results back
they had been waiting on.

green light to reopen.


The department responsible for
inspecting the building says its safe
for students and teachers to go back
inside the school.

As you may know, Northside has


been closed since Wednesday afternoon
when a construction worker found
asbestos while demolishing the library.


A spokesperson for Northside says
the tests show there is no risk
students or staff were exposed to
asbestos.


We found out yesterday...that
over the summer the school removed
asbestos throughout the building.


At the time, they thought the
problem was gone....this time around
Superintendent Lorraine Lange wants to
reassure everyone "We wouldn't let
students or staff back in the building
if it wasn't safe."

In February Norfolk sent its case
against cop killer Thomas Porter to
Arlington.


The Commonwealth's Attorney's office
said the move was a significant
undertaking and it cost tens of
thousands of dollars. Nearly 8 months
later, the final figure is still not
available.

The cost of moving Morva's trial will
heavily depend on where it goes. For
instance, if it's a less populated area
hotel rooms may not be as expensive.
But we won't know where this trial is

Joseph Lee Hamlett learned the price
he'll pay for the crime.

June, 2006 Hamlett was one of three men who
broke into a house on Early Street last
June, then robbed and shot David Devin
Poe in front of his family.


Hamlett testified against Shawn
Cabler (CAB-ler) and Carson Washington
... they're now serving life sentences
for Poe's murder.


Today, Hamlett got a 38-year
prison term for robbery, abduction and
firearms charges.


Prosecutors say while Hamlett
cooperated with police, he also urged
Cabler and Washington to shoot Poe.

January, 2007 In January, a Lynchburg judge
dismissed two lawsuits against the
school filed by students and alumnae
who wanted to keep Randolph single-sex.


They appealed, but a three-justice
panel last month refused to send the
case to the full court.


Now, the full court has agreed to
hear the appeal.
