transformed into five athletic fields,
3 of which are full regulation fields.
They are clearly needed because
the fields across the street at River's
Edge are typically used more than 200
times a year.
That number should be more like a
100.
City leaders say the new fields
will help alleviate that and so far
they're serving their purpose.

dogfighting charges in Surry County...

VO-NAT The prosecutor told the
Associated Press he plans to present "a
host of bills of indictment." regarding
the case to a grand jury tomorrow.
This comes a month after Michael
Vick pleaded guilty to federal dog
fighting charges.
In court documents, Vick admitted
helping kill six to eight pit bulls and
bank rolling Bad Newz Kennels' bets on
dog fights.
He is scheduled to be in federal
court on December 10th...where he'll be
sentenced on those charges.

sport utility vehicle in the wreckage
of a Roanoke home.

The crash happened shortly after
nine. Authorities say the S-U- V was on
Wonju Street, travelling toward
Colonial Avenue when the driver had a
medical problem.
The vehicle hit the guard rail,
went through the intersection and
struck the house.
Emergency Crews shored up the
structure, tended to the driver, and
searched the house to make sure no one
else was inside. 71- year- old Rodney
Clark Thomas, of Floyd was listed in
Fair Condition earlier today.

and family of a Lynchburg man who died
while in police custody one year ago
got together today.

About two dozen people walked
through the James Crossing apartment
complex in honor of Clarence Beard Jr.
Beard died last September of
apparent heart failure while being
arrested by Lynchburg police.
An investigation cleared the
officers of any wrongdoing, but many
black residents felt the incident was
covered up.
Beard's fiancee says she's trying
to move on.

business in Bland County may be moving.

Giles County to let him build a new
kennel on 61 acres he owns in the White
Gate community.
He wants to move so his family
can be closer to other Amish families
in Giles County.
This past March, one of
Schmucker's Dogwood Kennels burned.
He lost nearly 200 dogs in the
fire.
More than 4-thousand people
signed an online petition against the
business.
Giles County Administrators say
they've already received letters of
concern from nearby land owners.

straight A-C-C Games that will truelly
define Tech's 2-thousand and 7 Season.

Clemson on October 6th in Death Valley
with Kickoff set for 6 P-M. The

Carolina Tar Heels this Saturday. It
is Homecoming for the Hokies and the
return of Butch Davis to a Sold Out

good news regarding their Wide receiver
Correy Earls, he was released from the
Hospital in Charlottesville on Sunday
and returned to Atlanta after being
carted off the field on a Stretcher
late in the 4th quarter of Satuday's
Game.
Earls, a redshirt freshman, had
feeling in all his extremities and
passed a series of tests,
U-V-A Head Coach Al Groh visited
with Earls when he was in the hospital.
