making the grade but there's still room
for improvement.

elementary schools and 97-percent of

of Virginia's 314 middle schools are
fully accredited.


State educators say the problem
is math, students are having trouble
preparing for algebra and geometry.


On the very day these numbers
were released, Governor Tim Kaine
addressed a P-T-A group in Roanoke.


Afterwards we asked him why that
age group is NOT making the grade.

from a state commission after he was
confronted by the governor's office on
statements made about jihad.

a northern Virginia doctor and
president of the Muslim American
Society.


Here's video of him a rally in
Washington last year where he denounced
the invasion of Lebanon during that
time by what he calls the "Israeli war
machine."


In a separate video Omeish
praises the "jihad way."


When the governor's office
confronted him about it Omeish readily
resigned from the Immigration
Commission.

of Virginia students are headed to a
Montgomery County grand jury.

accused of stealing a Hokie bird
statue.


The fiber glass statue is called
"Farmer Hokie" and it was ripped from
its base in early April.


The fraternity brothers admitted
to stealing the bird and even returned
it, but they are charged with felony
destruction of property.


A grand jury will hear the case
next month.

staph infection MRSA at Jefferson
Forest High School in Bedford
County.....

A letter home went home to
parents Wednesday explaining the
situation.


Both students diagnosed with the
infection are receiving treatment and
the school has been thoroughly cleaned.


A spokesman says one of the
students is a female athlete who has
been barred from actively participating
in her team sport for the next few days
until the infection clears up.


But she is allowed to sit on the
bench with her team during games.

ready to grace the stage at the
Jefferson Center.

There will be two performances...
one tonight at 8pm and one Sunday
afternoon at 2pm.


The opera was composed by
Engelbert Humperdinck, based on the
fairy-tale by the Brothers Grimm, Jacob
and Wilhelm.


The story of Hansel and Gretel is
a children story, but the performance
is a family show rich in humor and
pathos.


Artistic director Steven White
says the work appeals to adults and
children in different ways.
