due to a looming budget shortfall.
Governor Tim Kaine is expected to
discuss the situation today.
The revenues for the current
budget are expected to fall 641
million dollars below the forecast
levels on which state spending through
June is based.
Kaine has already ordered state
agencies to draw up plans for paring
down their operating budgets by 5
percent.
Major fiscal demands await the
2008 legislature.
They include updating mandatory
public school standards and upgrading
failures in the state's mental health
system exposed by the April massacre at
Virginia Tech.
