of a house fire in Buchannan.

The fire broke out around 8:30 this


evening at a home off of Little Timber
Ridge.


When firefigthers arrived, the house
was fully engulfed. In fact, we
understand flames could be seen for
nearly a mile.


Crews have knocked down the fire but
are still working to put it completely
out.


We understand no one was home at the
time of the fire.

the manslaughter trial of Timothy
Workman.


The former DEA Agent took the
stand, and showed a Roanoke jury what
led up to a fatal shooting in a


restaurant parking lot five years ago.

killing Keith Bailey at O'Charley's
near Valley View Mall.


Workman says Bailey charged
toward him as he was getting out of a
car that belonged to the woman Workman
had spent the evening talking with

voted unanimously NOT to allow Ivan
Schmucker (SCHMOOU-KER) Junior to move
his dog breeding business to Giles
County.


Schmucker (SCHMOOU-KER) asked for
a special exception to build a new
kennel on 61 acres he owns in the White
Gate community.


Last month, the Giles County
planning commission recommended the
board deny his request.


This past March, one of
Schmucker's (SCHMOOU-KER) Dogwood
Kennels burned in Bland County.


He lost about 200 dogs in the


fire.

their voices were heard
tonight....speaking out against fly ash
at the Giles County Board of
Supervisors meeting today.

coal is burned to make electricity.


Howard Spencer, Executive
Director of the Giles County
Partnership for Excellence and Chairman
of the Board of Supervisors, wants to
clear land along the New River and fill
in seven acres with fly ash hauled in
from the American Electric Power Plant
in Glenn Lyn.


He says the project is absolutely
safe and would create new jobs.


But others argue the project will
harm animals, the environment and even


people.


The project has been cleared by
all the necessary federal and state
agencies.


Today, Spencer announced he will
hold a public meeting to talk about
safety issues.

Virginia Tech 300-thousand dollars to
create endowed fellowships in memory of
three engineering professors killed in
the April shootings.


The fellowships will honor Kevin
Granata, Liviu Librescu (LIHV'-yoo
lih-BRESS'-koo), and G-V Loganathan
low-GAN-uh-than.


They were among five faculty
members and 25 students killed in a
classroom building used primarily by
the engineering department.

Blue Ridge Parkway overlook since the
1970s. Over the years they've noticed


hawks are migrating a bit later than
