Skills Training. That's basically
familiarizing yourself with a weapon,
which in this case was an M-2 machine
gun.
Army officials say it's the first time
someone died during this training in
recent memory.
19-year old Private Daniel Fisher was
in basic training only 6 weeks, but he
already made an impact among fellow
soldiers.
THEY DESCRIBED AS A DRIVING HARDWORKING
LOYAL SOLDIER TO HIS FAMILY AND
FRIENDS.
Fisher was training at this facility
Thursday on fort sill when he was
struck by a round from a machine gun.
He later died at a local hospital just
before 4pm. Training has now stopped
temporarily while investigators canvas
the area.
MY INTENT WITH THIS PROCESS IS TO
FIRST, DETERMINE THE FACTS, SECOND
IDENTIFY THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE TRAGEDY
AND THIRDLY TO TAKE ACTION TO PREVENT
SUCH A TRAGEDY FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.
Officials saythe this type of training
requires two soldiers to participate.
Once the investigation is completed,
Fisher's family will be briefed by the
military first.

Fisher had three more weeks of
training before he became a
full-fledged soldier.
Officials say he was NOT hit by a
live round of ammunition.
In fact, he was slated to begin
live fire exercises next week.
Fisher is survived by his wife --
the couple did not have any children.

Most of the state is in the mid
80s with more summer-like weather
forecast this weekend.
Autumn's warm start has kept
trees green and parks full, as people
play golf and tennis to enjoy the last

A persistent coastal storm
continues to pound the South Carolina
Lowcountry.
Serious beach erosion has
occurred this week on the beaches and
golf course at Isle of Palms...a resort
just north of Charleston.
One of the most popular
attractions there is the Wild Dunes
golf course.
But Mother Nature has done a
number on some of the holes.
For example, despite a sand bag
barrier, much of the 18th hole crumbled
into the ocean.
The final hole had been a par-5
but due to the erosion...it has been
shortened to a par-3.
