Blacksburg police say there was a
report that the aircraft was having
fuel problems before it went down.

flames to get to the woman - but
couldn't.

<< Daniel Fisher was just 19
years-old and a few months ago he used
to call Bassett High School his home.
Immediately following graduation
Daniel followed his goal of enlisting
in the military.

She remembers Fisher....seen here
in his senior photo...as a good student
who was usually quiet.
Yet, six weeks into his military
training, something went tragically
wrong.
Fisher died when a machine gun
discharged and hit him at this base in
Oklahoma.
Bassett Funeral Home is handling
his service and Fisher's family has
asked them to speak on their behalf.

gunpoint Friday night in the parking
lot of a Roanoke hotel...

But the alleged crooks didn't get
very far.
Police have arrested Deonte
Trent, and Justin Thompson, both of
Roanoke - for robbery.
Authorities say the 18 and
19-year-old held up a couple outside

yesterday morning picking up trash near
the Roanoke River.
From the looks of it, there was
plenty of trash to go around.
The fall cleanup was put on by
the Clean Valley Council which is made
up of several surrounding cities an
counties including Salem and Botetourt.

CK/SKYTRACKER today in Blacksburg and likely in
Roanoke. We'll head toward the 85-90
degree range Sunday afternoon. Wind
CK/WEATHERPRO will be light from the southwest. High
pressure will deliver mostly sunny
skies. Clear skies are expected tonight
with lows in the low and mid 60s. We'll
watch a strong cold front approach from
the west Tuesday, possibly bringing a
few showers, however, most of these
look like they'll miss the greater
Roanoke Valley - staying mainly just to
our west. Columbus Day (Monday) and
Tuesday the weather headline will
continue to the be record heat which is
expected. Monday and Tuesday expect
highs near 90. Wednesday is a
transitional day with highs near 80,
then we're forecasting much cooler air
by late in the week and into next
weekend.

your body's ability to defend itself
against heart disease.

A recent study found just that reaction
after participants ate only one piece
of high-fat carrot cake and drank a
milkshake.
Comparing blood samples taken before
and after, researchers found the
fat-laden feast compromised the ability
of arteries to resist the build-up of
fatty plaques that, over time, clogs
blood vessels and causes heart disease.

Experts say even the tiniest premature
babies should get breast milk while
they're in the hospital because it
appears to boost their mental
development.
Babies in the study who were given
breast milk got higher scores on a test
measuring their overall intelligence,
with the highest scores showing up
among the children who had received the
most breast milk as infants.

The latest data counts nearly twice as
many U-S adults as obese compared to
Europe, a key factor leading Americans
to suffer more often from cancer,
diabetes and other chronic ailments.
Treatment of these conditions adds
almost 150-billion-dollars to the
annual health care tab in the United
States.
While the discrepancy has been linked
to higher U-S prices for medical
treatment, the report said a sicker
population is also a factor.

off with a 15-year-old Florida girl has
been arrested in Virginia.

VO-NAT Federal marshalls had tracked
46-year-old William Joe Mitchell to a
truck stop on Interstate 81.
State police arrested Mitchell at
a gas station in Winchester around
noon.
He garnered national attention
earlier this week after police say he
lured the teen away from home after
meeting her on the internet.
Mitchell later released her at
Walmart store - unharmed.
He had been on the run ever
since.
William Joe Mitchell now faces
federal and state charges.

Saturday.
It happened in the 14-hundred
block of Augusta.
No one inside the house was hit.
Police say Michael Crawford, a
