car crash in Roanoke County last night.
It happened at around 10:30 on
Starlight Lane.
Police say Daniel Ammons was
driving south when his vehicle ran off
the right side of the road and struck
several trees before coming to rest in
an embankment.
A passenger, Nicholas Shockley
was killed in the crash.
Ammons was transported to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital with injuries.
He received a summons for DUI and
refusual to take a blood and breath
test.
The crash is still under
investigation.

an earlier car crash in Roanoke County.

The wreck happened at around noon
yesterday.near the Dixie Caverns Exit
off of Interstate 81.
At this point, police believe an
SUV was pulling out from Dow Hollow
Road and hit the wheel of a Kroger
truck.
Police say the force of the truck
pushed the jeep into the guardrail.
The driver Mary Maxey was not
wearing a seat belt and was thrown from
the jeep.
She died and emergency crews took
her two passengers to the hospital.

have an affect on crops...this time
it's the peanut.
While they are usually more
tolerant of dry conditions, the
statewide drought proved too much this
growing season.
Because the lack of rain has made
the ground hard like concrete peanut
farmers report the vines could barely
worm their way into the ground and when
they did they just dried up.
The harvest began last week.

rescue squad in Roanoke County has one
goal in mind and that is to to keep
this from happening to you.
This afternoon Read Mountain
crews put on a very lively
demonstration for the public on how to
prevent fires - stuff as simple as
making sure your dinner doesn't go up
in flames -
The demonstration was part of
fire prevention week.

pumping in a warm south/southwest wind,
which will set the stage for more
record warmth. Highs Monday and Tuesday

much needed rain, it will begin to
knock our temperatures out of record

about a helicopter crash in Blacksburg.
The ultra light went down around
one o-clock Satuurday afternoon in a
neighborhood on Landsdowne Street.

Police say the pilot was Ranson
Pelt Jr. of Blacksburg.
The 60-year-old is in critical
condition at the U-V-A Medical Center.
His passenger was killed and has
not been identified.

flew out around 12:45.
Bailey also heard Pelt's call for

staff to take action.
They immediately called 9-1-1.
By the time a rescue team

Unsettling news for Bailey who

this airport.
Bailey has always known him as a
nice person.

Forecast Center. Watch out for pockets
of fog as you head out first thing this
morning. After a foggy start, a large
ridge will slowly move to the south,
pumping in a warm south/southwest wind,
which will set the stage for more
record warmth. Highs Monday and Tuesday
are forecast near 90. A strong cold
front enters the area late Tuesday into
Wednesday. While the front won't bring
much needed rain, it will begin to
knock our temperatures out of record
territory. Highs Wednesday are forecast
around the low to mid 80s. Sharply
cooler temperatures are forecast by
Thursday and Friday (highs in the 60s)
as an upper level low develops close to
the Great Lakes. A few showers may fall
just to the west of the Roanoke Valley,
but generally the next week will stay
dry. Have a great week!
