student had a staph infection and not
MRSA last Tuesday - which is why a note

The Roanoke Valley Association of
Realtors says sales are down compared
to this time last year, but the average
price of homes that sell is slightly

12-percent. Statewide, they're slightly
higher, but in the Roanoke Region, the
decline is a little below nine-percent.
Those in the industry say while
things have slowed down, Roanoke is

Center. A large, strong ridge of high
toss to Kim pressure has prompted the return of
summer-like weather. Record highs were
set in Roanoke, Danville, Blacksburg
and Bluefield yesterday afternoon. This
same high pressure will provide another
sweltering afternoon today, with some
record highs being challenged. A strong
cold front enters the area later today
into Wednesday. We're not anticipating
anything more than a few isolated
showers and storms as it passes
through. The winds will also increase a
bit. The main story with this front
will be sharply cooler temperatures by
Thursday and Friday. Highs will barely
make it into the upper 60s to near 70.
We'll also monitor and upper level low
coming out of the Great Lakes by the
end of the week. This may provide
another opportunity for showers in the
western mountains....TUESDAY: Sun and
clouds. High: 91 ...TUESDAY NIGHT:
Increasing clouds. Isolated shower and

The blaze yesterday spread into nearby
woods before firefighters could bring
it under control.

up the investigation into Saturday's
gyrocopter crash in Blacksburg.
The pilot who crashed apparently
had years of experience under his belt.

was badly burned in the accident.
At last check, the 60 year-old
was in critical condition at U-V-A
Medical Center.

the Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive
Airport for at least the past 5 years.

yesterday morning on the Virginia Tech
campus.

The test lasted several minutes
and was NOT without a few glitches. The
siren did blare as expected but when it
stopped, loudspeakers began playing two
messages at the same time. One was a
pre-recorded test message telling
people to seek shelter immediately.
Later on, a voice came on the
loudspeaker and said the operation was
a test.
The university plans to test the
system once a semester.

test of its emergency response system
this week.
The University is not announcing
the date and time of the siren test, to
make it as realistic as possible.
The test is expected to last 10
or 15 minutes and should be heard
within a mile radius of campus.
