missing for nine days.....

It was shortly after noon
yesterday that the wreckage of a car
was spotted- down a 30-foot embankment
near Nester Road - That's in the
Thaxton area of Bedford County.
Authorities later confirmed the
car belonged to 19-year-old Samantha
Bittler ... who disappeared after
leaving a friend's house.
Bittler's body was found outside
the car ... investigators are trying to
figure out what happened.

over a week.

30th.
The 19-year-old was spending the
night at her cousin's house in
Botetourt County.
The next day she never made it to
work.

"Sam" as she was known- graduated
from Liberty High School in 2006.
Her family described her as an

The victim's name was released
yesterday.
Judy Albert was 43 and from
Christiansburg.

Supervisors held a special meeting for
state officials to explain how the
Cumberland Park would work, and
requirements needed to use A-E-P's fly
ash.
Many who showed up at the meeting
want the project stopped-- saying fly
ash is toxic and will harm the New
River, as well as animals and people.
But state leaders say there is no
reason to hold up the project.

your AEP rates......
That's because the power company has
reached a settlement with the EPA in an
8-year-old lawsuit...

VO-NAT AEP will spend 4.6 billion
dollars to improve its plants to reduce
chemical emissions....those emissions
are blamed for acid rain....
The government sued in 1999,
saying AEP deliberately ignored the
Clean Air Act...so now the company must
pay a 15 million-dollar civil fine and
60 million dollars in cleanup and
mitigation costs to help heal polluted
land in the Shenandoah National Park
and waterways, including the Chesapeake
Bay.
They have 10 years to reduce
emissions by about 70 percent.

underway as the mayor, superintendent,
school board members, and nearby
residents gathered for a groundbreaking
ceremony.
The new school will look this and
will cost roughly 57 million dollars.
It will include new classrooms, a
cafeteria, gym, auditorium, and a
football stadium.
The school board chairman told News
7's Justin McLeod that a new school is
long overdue.

Fall Festival in downtown Vinton.
The day starts at 8 A-M with a
5-K run through the streets.
A line-up packed with various
local musical acts will be performing
on two different stages.
CHANNEL=C VO NAT
craft vendors, and numerous children's
activities to keep everyone busy.
An open house is planned for the
newly- renovated Vinton War Memorial.
And a Doggy Pageant and costume
contest should get plenty of tongues
wagging.
Six years ago, the Vinton Fall
Festival began as an event to help
downtown business owners and has
steadily grown.

Center. A cold front continues to move
through the area. The winds will also
increase a bit during the passage.
Behind the front, much cooler
temperatures, with highs barely making
it into the lower 80s today, and in the
low to mid 60s Thursday and Friday.
We'll also monitor an upper level low
coming out of the Great Lakes by the
end of the week. This may provide
another opportunity for a shower or two
in the western mountains.
