deaths dropped an average of more than

2 percent a year.that's about double
the average rate from the years

1993-2001.

(Karen Brown/CBS News/NY)

There are many reasons for the drop in
deaths.

But the biggest reason. Doctors are
able to spot cancer early and treat it

with more powerful drugs.

Sot: Dr. Harmon Eyre/American Cancer
Society

(NATS)

Regular screenings including
colonoscopies and mammographies are

saving lives

by allowing the cancer to be caught and
treated in the earliest stages. The

government study also found breast

three

and a half percent per year.

Pet owners in Chicago got their dogs
all decked out for a costume contest at
Navy Pier.

Just like their human counterparts,
these canines modeled a variety of
costumes.. from a nurse to a sailor to
a scarecrow.

But there can only be ONE top dog--
it was this pooch named Joey that
dressed up as Elvis.

No word on whether he can belt out
"Hound Dog," but he still walked away
with a 125- dollar gift card from a pet
store....
