<<

Arin Sime, the Libertarian
candidate for State Senate in the 24th
district has no objection to a bill
that does away with personal property
taxes for disabled veterans.

He says he would focus on
property tax reform across the board
for everyone in the Commonwealth...

Quote... "I will introduce a bill
to change Virginia to use an
acquisition value based property tax
system. This means your property taxes
would be based on the amount you bought
your home for, not the current market
value. The assessment of your property
for tax purposes would be capped at a
small rate of increase allowed each
year, meaning you would likely see a
maximum increase of 4 or 5% instead of

the 30% or more many people are facing.

Opposing candidates in the 16th House
District also weighed in...

Andy Parker said... "I would support
including disabled veterans in the
Governor's proposed Homestead Tax
exemption for seniors and provides a
20% relief on property tax."

While Don Merricks offered this
response...

"Since personal property taxes are
levied by the localities and not the
state, I recommend you work with your
local Board of Supervisors or City
Council to perhaps have disabled
veterans exempt from personal property
taxes in the locality where you live.
It is a tax exemption that all
localities in Virginia should consider.
"
