Last Wednesday Hollins University wanted to
collect 200-thousand pounds of e-waste
during last week's drive, but they more
than tripled that goal.
Hollins, along with Virginia
Tech, ODU and the University of
Richmond collected an estimated 655-
thousand pounds of outdated equipment.
Businesses and local residents
were able to unload their unwanted
electronics - during Saturday alone
more than 900- vehicles stopped by in a
six-hour period.
In this drive the equipment will
be recycled here in the United States,
in the past it's been shipped to other
countries.

hurdle for a wind farm in Highland
County.

A hearing examiner has asked the
State Corporation Commission to approve
his recommendations to reduce harm to
native birds and bats.
Last spring commissioners asked
to see more details on how the
developer and state officials plan to
monitor and reduce the wind farm's
effects on wildlife.
Opponents worry the giant
windmills will slaughter bats and birds
native to the area.
Highland New Wind wants to
develop 19 turbines on a ridge near the
West Virginia border.
If the S-C-C approves the project
construction could begin in 2009.

benefit concert for Virginia Tech, and
this Monday, two more groups will give
back to the Hokie community in light of
April 16th.

VO-NAT Contemporary Christian artist,
Ayiesha Woods and the Christian rap
group Grits, best known for its hit,
"My Life Be Like...", will perform a
concert on Monday night at Burruss
Hall, completely free of charge.
The two have waived their fees
for the event, and will spend several
days on campus speaking to the Athletes
in Action group, including the
football, women's basketball, and
softball teams.

VO-NAT The latest pet trend in Britain
are these pint size piglets.
These miniature pigs, or
pig-mies, were just a little bigger
than a tea cup when they were born and
will grow to become a fifth of the size
of normal pigs.
A farmer in southern England
spent nine years crossbreeding the
animals down to size- so far they're a
huge hit with visitors.
Some owners of the mini pigs
treat them just like any ordinary
household pet, and has even managed to
teach them tricks.
They say they are as good as or
better than a typical pet dog.
