To do that he relies on tools
like this closed-circuit camera system
that records activity around the

kept locked to the public.
And every entrance is numbered so
if there is a problem, someone can get
easily get to the right place.
As for metal detectors, the
school doesn't have those posted at
doorways.

great idea but just not practical
especially when you have nearly 1100
students.

Southwest Roanoke....

The van ran off of Route 220 and
rolled down an embankment into a
creek.....and ironically this all
happened right next to the property of
another daycare....
To give you just a little bit
more perspective...this is on the
northern part of the town....
Little People Learning Center
tells us all four kids and the van
driver are at Roanoke Memorial
Hospital....the children are reported
to be in good condition, but the
condition of the van driver is not
known....

Virginia and West Virginia for three
people after a Tazewell County's
sheriff's deputy was shot.

VO-NAT The shooting followed two
different convenient store robberies.
Deputy Eric Mullins was shot when
he stopped a vehicle on Route 460.
Mullins was treated for minor
injuries at Bluefield Medical Center
and released.
Police say they found the
suspects' vehicle in Bluefield, but
they were not in it.
The three are being called
"persons of interest" in the case:
Scottie Stinson, Roxy Short and
Marcus Fuller... not officially
suspects, at the moment, but it's clear
police want to speak with them.

dozens of drug arrests last night in
Bedford County, as authorities break up
what they call a major open-air drug
market just across the street from a
school.

for very different reasons.
Thursday night, armed with more
than a hundred criminal charges,
authorities began rounding up 24 people
accused of selling everything from
cocaine to pot to methadone ... some of
them within a stone's throw of the
school.

husband died, a Covington woman
perished this morning in a house fire.

Doneeta Smith Eggleston moved
here three weeks ago from the home she
and "Oakey" shared on Rockbridge
Avenue.
She had just just gotten out of a
nursing home, was undergoing physical
rehabilitation for a broken shoulder.
And Eggleston was using an oxygen tank
to help her breathe.
The volunteer fire department
managed to contain the fire to this one
house, saving homes on either side.
Three cats also died in the fire
on Pocahontas Street.

their own homes against this type of
staph infection.

He recommends cleaning household
surfaces on a daily basis.
He says you don't need fancy
cleaners.. A bleach solution or even
lysol will kill the bacteria.
Mersa can live on a surface for
hours.. even days.
Many people also carry the
bacteria in their nose or their skin.
That's why handwashing is still
the best prevention measure. But you
need to scrub with soap and warm water
for at least 15 seconds to make a
difference.
Handsanitizers also work.. you
just need to make sure they contain 60
percent alcohol.
