Roaring out of canyons, fierce desert
winds continue to feed at least 14
MAJOR
wildfires rageing from San Diego to
Malibu.
Authorities had warned a lot of people
were going to lose their
homes.......they were right.
More than 650 homes were devoured as
flames crept down hillsides and invaded
neighborhoods.....Almost 400 square
miles charred....Hundreds of thousands
forced to flee in a mass exodus ahead
of what one resident called Armagedeon.

JUST LIKE ONE BIG INFERNO."

As the fires bear down on communities,
most obey the call to get out....but
some stay....to fight the flames...and
save what they can.

his skin's burnt but his house is

to fight them.

People have been asked to stay

scattered showers. The winds will also
increase as we head through the day.
The best chance of rain will be in the
western mountains. The next weather
system will be coming from the Plains
states. An area of low pressure will be
guided by a cold front just to the
west. The two will remain close enough
that we'll have cloudy skies and
occasional showers in the forecast over
the next few days. The front is
scheduled to pass south of Virginia on
Wednesday, this would mean clouds and
showers through the end of the week.
Temperatures will also respond to the
clouds and showers, with highs in the
70s, then fall into the 60s for the
remainder of the week. Models are still
inconsistent about the weekend, but it
appears another front will approach the
region bringing showers on Saturday and

gyro-copter crash in Blacksburg.

severely burning the pilot.
The F-A-A released a preliminary
report Monday.

clouds and showers, with highs in the
70s, then fall into the 60s for the
remainder of the week. Models are still
inconsistent about the weekend, but it
appears another front will approach the
region bringing showers on Saturday and

Delegate Morgan Griffith the
legislature has passed many laws
attempting to make teen drivers safer.
He suggests looking into the companies
providing the education of younger
drivers... "There is some evidence
that there is a higher fatality rate in
the areas that use commercial
providers... This needs further
investigation but if the allegation
that commercial providers have a higher
fatality rate holds up under
independent, scientific, statistical
analysis then the legislature should
take action to eliminate this
practice."

wildfires rageing from San Diego to
Malibu.
Authorities had warned a lot of people
were going to lose their
homes.......they were right.
More than 650 homes were devoured as
flames crept down hillsides and invaded
neighborhoods.....Almost 400 square
miles charred....Hundreds of thousands
forced to flee in a mass exodus ahead
of what one resident called Armagedeon.

unsafe, overused and neglected rural

General Assembly session that we can
put politics aside and move toward

"A large percentage of accidents are
caused by distractions. While driver
education classes are required, a good
defensive driving class should also be
required. The DMV, schools, and
parents should all work together to
insure our youth are properly trained
and ready to drive on our highways."

"In any profession in which you are
licensed, you need additional training
to maintain or renew your license. The
same should be true of your drivers
license. Teens are not the only

It should be mandatory of all drivers.

should not subject our younger drivers
to a separate set of rules."

to keep the off leash dog park at
Fishburn Park.
But there will be a few changes.

March The park opened in March to rave
reviews.
The city found a lot of dogs used
it for the first few weeks and then
usage dropped dramatically.
That's because dogs had to be
under voice command at all times and
many found that difficult since there's
no fence.
So the city is teaming up with a
local group called Newvaconnects to
build a fence.
The hope is to have it in place
by next spring.
