firefighters to control a blaze at a
Bedford County golf course yesterday.

A building used for
residents' storage and groundskeeping
equipment was in flames.
Employees were able to get
most of the equipment out in time.

The woman was eventually able to

amendment that'll better outline when
it's okay for schools to share a
student's mental health issues with
police.

Representatives has passed a bill to
protect 54,000 acres in Jefferson
National Forest.
The legislation will help to
create
six new wilderness areas, a wilderness
study area and two new scenic areas.
Six existing wilderness areas
will also be expanded within the
723,000-acre forest.
The legislation must now pass in
the Senate, where an identical bill
was introduced by Senators John Warner
and Jim Webb.
Congressman Rick Boucher says the
legislation not only will protect the
"pristine quality" of the land, but
also will enhance tourism.

accident killed a woman at the New
River Trail State Park in Wythe County.

Temperatures today will climb into the
70s. Another round of showers heads our
way on Thursday. A wedge should develop

the 50s and low 60s, with spotty
showers and drizzle.As far as rainfall
amounts through Friday, an inch or more
is certainly possible as the front
passes through.By the weekend, the
cut-off low in the plains will take aim
at the northeast. This will allow for
another decent chance of showers by
Saturday. Sunday is a transition day,
