Energy- of the 107-million households
in the United States, approximately 8.1
million heat with oil.
On Friday - oil rose to more than
92-dollars a barrel- those high costs
are already trickling down to
customers.
This time last year, Martin Oil
Company in Elliston was charging 2-
dollars .26 cents a gallon.
This year the price is 70-cents
more.

water restrictions that have been in
place for weeks.

where residents had been under a
mandatory conservation order since
October 2nd.
The water level in the Buffalo
River, from which Amherst draws its
water, is back to normal.
And the city of Lynchburg has
switched back to drawing 100 percent of
its water from the Pedlar Reservoir.
The city had been drawing from the
James River for all its water prior to
last week's rainfall.

It took flames of enormous intensity to
turn this beach house into the
smoldering ruins you see here.
Investigators say the fire that killed
seven
college students was an accident. ..
and probably started on the deck after
a
late night party.
The house was packed with college
students enjoying the last of the mild
weather. Six of the victims were from
the University of South Carolina .
Classes are back in session, but the
feeling was anything but normal.

The fire broke out just before 7:00
Sunday morning. Witnesses report
hearing
screams from inside...and the sound of
windows exploding. When neighbors
looked outside, the entire house was a
fireball.
Home video captured the full horror of
it....flames surging from the windows.
The roof, walls....everything.. was
completely engulfed. Six students did
survive...and officials think they were
saved by the smoke detectors.

It could be a few more days before the
names of the victims are
released.....a USC official is helping
the medical examiner with the
identifications....but students at the
school are already figuring out who's
no longer on campus.

it's now eliminating five academic
departments.
The financially struggling school in
Lynchburg said last week the cuts will
include nine full-time faculty
positionsby spring of 2009.
College spokeswoman Brenda Edson
said departments in anthropology,
American culture and German studies
will close at the end of this school
year, and the Japanese and Russian
studies departments will close after
the 2008-09 school year.
Edson said students who have
declared a major in the departments
being cut will be able to finish their
degrees through various options.

With so many homes ravaged by flames in
Southern California.....this sobering
scene is being played out from Malibu
to Mexico.

victims sifting through tiny pieces of
rubblehoping to find irreplaceable
keepsakes. At Dale Peters' home,
firefighters saved some items just
before
the house fell.

fought for this house. They actually
pulled family photos from this house
and saved them and put them on the
lawn."

More than two thousand homes burned to
the ground.... 500 thousand acres
blackened. And eight days after the
first fires flared, many continue to
burn.

Crews are still battling seven
wildfires that are not yet contained.
They
hope to have everything contained by
the end of the week, but the dangerous
Santa Ana winds could kick up againand
that could spell big trouble for
firefighters.

But in most areas, the fires are out
and cleanup has begun.

of a prison a free man.

Robin Reed in the SkyTracker 7 Forecast
Center. Many awoke to frosty
conditions this morning and the growing
season has ended along and west of the
Blue Ridge mountains. Even though
sub-freezing temperatures are expected
again for these areas, no advisories
will be issued since the growing season
is over. On the other hand, a FREEZE
WARNING has been issued for areas east
of the Blue Ridge. You'll see your
first frost tonight which will end the
growing season. A large ridge of high
pressure will keep the weather tranquil
through the week, with clear skies both
night and day. This week mean a fairly
large temperature swing with chilly
mornings and comfortable afternoons.
Temperatures will moderate a bit by
midweek as winds come in from the
south. Several fronts will try to make
a run at us, with little success.
Tropical Storm Noel formed in the
Central Caribbean Sea over the weekend.

tonight with some college basketball
news from Lexington. VMI head
basketball coach Duggar Baucom has
agreed to a contract extension that
will keep him on post through the 2011
season.

Baucom is entering his third
season as VMI's head basketball coach
and his original four-year contract
took him through the 2009 season. The
new deal includes a salary raise and
other benefits - according to VMI
athaltic director Donny White.
Last year Baucom led the Keydets
to the Big South Championship game and
their most wins in 9 years with 14
victories. VMI also led all of
division one in scoring last season
averaging 101 points a game.
Baucom who is now 47 will have
among his returners this season -
Reggie Williams - division one's
scoring champ - who averaged 28 points
a game.

candidates. Girardi spent this season
as a Yankees' TV announcer after he was

However, the same year he was
fired, he was named National League
manager of the year. The official word

Porter Wagoner has died of lung cancer.
Wagoner was well known for his
trademark rhinestone suits...and for
launching Dolly Parton's career.
Among his many hits-- "Carroll County
Accident," "Company's Comin'," and
"Green Green Grass of Home."
He'd survived an abdominal aneurysm
in 2006..and was re-admitted to the
hospital this month with what lung
cancer.
Porter Wagoner was 80 years old.
