On Monday - oil rose to more than
93-dollars a barrel- those high costs
are already trickling down to
customers.
This time last year, Martin Oil

This year the price is 70-cents

be found in the fountain in the town's
traffic circle ... bubbling with life
-- and water -- once again.
Several days of sustained rain have
brought the Buffalo River back to its
normal level ... and after four weeks
of mandatory conservation, the town
feels good about its situation.
Due west of Amherst, it's the same
story ... the Pedlar Reservoir, which
serves as the city of Lynchburg's main
source of water, is up more than four
feet over last week ... and it
continues to rise.

That means Lynchburg is no longer

According to Johns Hopkins
University, four schools in our area
are considered "Dropout Factories"--
meaning they see less than 60 percent
of incoming freshman graduate.
Those schools in our region are
George Washington in Danville, Heritage
in Lynchburg, and Patrick Henry and
William Fleming in Roanoke.

It re-opened at ten yesterday
morning.. after being closed for the
weekend because of a leak and power

exanding a children's health insurance
program brought Senator Jim Webb to the
Roanoke Valley.
Webb toured the New Horizons Community
Health Center yesterday, where nearly

relief to many areas been plagued by
water shortages...

The town of Amherst yesterday
lifted the mandatory conservation order
put in place four weeks ago ...
officials say the Buffalo River is back
to its normal levels.
And the city of Lynchburg is back
to drawing 100 percent of its daily
water from the Pedlar Reservoir in
Amherst County.
The reservoir has risen more than
four feet since last week.
That means Lynchburg is no longer
relying on the James River for any of
its water needs.

The Roanoke Valley is in better
shape as well. The level of Carvins
Cove has risen by almost a foot since
last week. It's now about 68 percent
full.
*CG locator Roanoke Co. The Spring Hollow Reservoir is up more
than three feet, listed at 73 percent
of capacity.
The reservoirs are only slightly
below their averages for this time of
year, but officials with the Western
Virginia Water Authority say it will
take a lot more rain to fill them up.
And they're encouraging everyone to use
water wisely.
