parade.

admitted to a hospital in northern

Virginia so doctors can treat an
infection in his leg.

Several weeks ago he underwent a
minor surgery to repair a small tear in
an artery in his thigh.

Today doctors discovered the 80-
year- old has a low- grade infection at
the surgical site.

He's being held for treatment and
observation.

Doctors expect the senator will
be able to return to work next week.

Roanoke was 69 and the low was 34 .
Skies will be mostly clear through the
evening, but will turn partly cloudy
(especially in the west) overnight as a
cold front approaches. The cold front
crosses Thursday, maybe bringing a few
sprinkles to the New River Valley and
the Mountain Empire at best. Otherwise
mostly clear to partly cloudy skies
will be commonplace. Northerly breezes
will increase to 10-15mph with higher

September 11 Frank Cassell was sentenced last
month and was supposed to begin his
eight month sentence yesterday in a
federal prison in Waymart,
Pennsylvania.

But the U-S Marshal Service says
he will not report until next week.
That's because he could be called to
testify this week in the trial of
former Henry County Deputy Robert
Adams.

Adams faces multiple charges
stemming from a corruption scandal last
November.

Cassell will have to report to
the prison by noon next Tuesday.

The state's political
heavyweights are pumping money into
campaigns in hopes of keeping their
candidates from getting knocked out.

Taking a look at three of the
hotly contested races in our region....

VO-NAT The Democratic Party of Virginia

has invested more than 71- thousand
dollars into Eric Ferguson's campaign.

Adam Tomer received more than 55-
thousand.

The Republican Party has given
incumbent Delegate Danny Marshall more
than six- thousand dollars....

While G-O-P hopeful Charles
Poindexter received nearly 17-
thousand.

Former Governor Mark Warner has
given state Senate hopeful Mike Breiner
five thousand dollars.

Ferguson and Tomer each received
21- thousand.

Tomer also received more than 22-
thousand dollars from Governor Tim
Kaine's Political Action Committee.

concerning former Liberty University
star Samkon Gado.

Two years ago he was the toast of

Green Bay and considered a rising star
in the NFL.

But the 24 year old now finds
himself on the Miami Dolphins - one of
the NFL's winless teams. The
24-year-old Gado was signed today by
the Dolphins after playing in only
three games with the Houston Texans.
The 5-foot-10, 225-pounder originally
signed with the Chiefs as an out of
Liberty in 2005 but was released before
the regular season. He caught on with
Green Bay and rushed for 582 yards and
six touchdowns. He hopes to have a
chance to do some of that again with
the Fins.
