concerns in Giles County right now, but
it's been in the ground around Vinton
for more than a decade.
Opponents in Giles County fear the ash
could seep into the ground water and be
toxic to animals, the environment and
people.

Roanoke County wanted to use the
ash to build up the site where the
Country Crossing foodette now sits.

The Maroon and Orange clad Hokie
Nation took over the French Quarter and
on the eve of the biggest game in
school history - more than 15 thousand
Hokies wedged their way into the New
Orleans convention center for a raucous
- goose bump producing pep rally.
The Hokies carried that
excitement and momentum in to the Super
Dome against the favored Seminoles and
rolled up 503 yards of total offense
and had the ball almost 13 minutes more
than the Noles.
The Hokies led the game 29 to-28
heading to the fourth quarter - only to
watch FSU and Peter Warrick explode for
18 points in the final period of play.
The Hokies lose the game 46 to
29, but finish the season 11 and 1
with the highest end of the year
ranking in school history - number two
in the final Associated Press poll.

is winding down but the volleyball
postseason is already cranking up.
Area teams played their district
tournaments last week, and tonight
Regional action began all over the
state.

on the Highlanders raucous home floor.
And Glenvar would not disappoint
on this evening.
Watch five-eleven junior Liz Trinchere

floor on the Galax side for the
Highlanders.
Galax tried to combat that height
with some heart as five-six Arianna
Sexton will battle on the net and walk
the line to perfection with this spike.

who is a three sports star at Glenvar

back in the big leagues officially.
Today, the popular player and
most recently fired manager of the
Yankees was formally introduced as the
new skipper for the Los Angeles
Dodgers.

Yankees less than a month ago when his
Hall of Fame resume and 12 consecutive

conference recoginized sophomore Tim
Maypray for his play over the weekend.

named the Big South Offensive Player of
the Week after his record setting
performance against Charleston
Southern. Maypray had five catches for
209 yards and two touchdowns against
the Buccaneers. The 209 receiving yards
are second-most in Big South history.
He also rushed for 36 and returned four
kickoffs for 102 yards setting the Big
South single-game record for
all-purpose yards with 346.
