:00 Torre knows that even though he's
changing coasts, the expectations will
be ridiculously high.

He left the Yankees less than a
month ago, when his Hall of Fame resume
and 12 consecutive postseason
appearances could get him no more than

a one-year contract offer.

He officially gets a three-year,
$13 million contract at age 67, and he
inherits a club that hasn't won a world
series since 1988.

To help him turn that around,
he's bringing Larry Bowa and Don
Mattingly with him from the Yankees to
coach.

GRAPHIC=VIRGINIA The Virginia Cavaliers set an

NCAA record this past weekend-- winning
their fifth game by two points or less
in the same season.

One of the big reasons for their
recent success is the steady play of
senior Chris Long.

Saturday against Wake Forest,
Long had a total of 10 tackles.

His determination to stop the
ball is rivaled only by his will to
win.

OQ=Mike Stevens, News 7 Sports. < (END SOT) the Crescent City - in what for many

long time Tech fans - was a once in a
lifetime opportunity.

The Maroon and Orange clad Hokie
Nation took over the French Quarter and
on the eve of the biggest game in
school history - more than 15 thousand
Hokies wedged their way into the New
Orleans convention center for a raucous
- goose bump producing pep rally.

The Hokies carried that
excitement and momentum in to the Super
Dome against the favored Seminoles and
rolled up 503 yards of total offense
and had the ball almost 13 minutes more
than the Noles.

The Hokies led the game 29 to-28
heading to the fourth quarter - only to
watch FSU and Peter Warrick explode for
18 points in the final period of play.

The Hokies lose the game 46 to
29, but finish the season 11 and 1
with the highest end of the year
ranking in school history - number two
in the final Associated Press poll.
