Byrd. According to the Medical Center,
she was released yesterday.

It is called Operation Puppy Rescue.

up in HIllsville takes some of the more

The animals, some of them puppies
were handed over by a Carroll County
dog breeder.
The breeder was only licensed for

operation a puppy mill.

market.
Bassett is voluntary pulling some of

convertible cribs.
Almost nine thousands of the cribs
are on the list because of a gap that
could trap babies and pose a
strangluation threat.
One 13 month old child reportedly got
a hand stuck between the railings.
The cribs were sold exclusively at
Babies "R" Us stores from July of 2005
until last month..

The Virginia Tech women's
basketball team is going to a work in
progress this season with a number of
young players.
One thing the team and the
upcoming recruiting classes won't have
to worry about is the stability of the
coaching staff.

administration announced that it has
extended head coach Beth Dunkenberger's
contract through the 2010-2011 season.
The Shawsville native is
entering her fourth season as the
Hokies' head coach and in the first
three her teams won 57 games and lost
37.
Tech also has been to the NCAAs
twice and the WNIT once under
Dunkerberger's guidance.
The Tech women open the season
Sunday at two pm at the Cassell against
High Point.

coaches gathered for their annual
preseason media day this morning at the
Salem Civic Center.
Randolph-Macon, the three time
defending league champ topped the
preseason poll, while Roanoke checked
in fourth, and Washington & Lee fifth.
Lynchburg was voted 8th with
Hollins and second year coach Richie
Waggoner picked to finish last, in what
should be another ultra competitive
season in the conference.

Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke delivered
his testimony on the economic outlook
to congress. While he said growth will
likely slow, he refused to say that a
recession is likely.
The DOW dropped 34 points today to
close at 13266.

The so-called Texas Snake Man was
actually spending some quality time
with 87 rattlesnakes.
The American record breaker broke
his own Guinness Book of World Record
by spending 45 minutes in the tub with
the snakes, ahead of Thursday's
Guinness World Records Day.
His advice to anyone who might
try to beat his record is to sit still
... because rapid movement scares
rattlesnakes.
