investigating an attempted robbery and
stabbing.


The alleged incident took place
in an alley between North Main Street
and Progress Street around 7 o'clock
last night.


A 23-year-old Virginia Tech
student says he was stabbed by a man
after he refused to give the man money.


After a brief struggle, the
suspect ran off.


The victim suffered a wound to
the abdomen and has since been released
from the hospital.

resulted in gunfire.


Police are still investigating,
but say Officer E-M Thiel was not hit
and not injured.

According to police - Officer
Thiel pulled over a car in the
800-block of 30th street after it blew
through a stop sign yesterday morning.


When the car stopped- both the
passenger and driver got out and ran.


Thiel was able to catch up to
driver -and as he started to arrest
Amario Terrell Perdue - the passenger
reportedly started shooting.


A spokeswoman says *luckily* the
officer wasn't hurt, but the shooter
hit several homes in the area.

of mailboxes, signs and even cars in
the town of Narrows and in the county.


In most cases - mailboxes were
sprayed with black paint, but vandals
also wrote profanities on the side of a
building.


Police say it was done somewhere
between late Tuesday night and early
yesterday morning.


Damages are estimated to be
thousands of dollars.
