Almost a week after the President

Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto
who recently returned from exile to
lead

the opposition party was placed under

firing

tear gas.

Even female protestors were rounded up
and taken away. :10

The crackdown by President Pervez
Musharraf comes just a day after he
tried to

appease his opponents by announcing
elections would go ahead next year. :08

(STANDUP: Tara Mergener/CBS
NEWS/Washington, DC)

While Washington considers Musharraf an
important ally, the White House

renewed its call for the country to
return to constitutional order and

insisted Bhutto and other political
opponents must be allowed to protest

peacefully.

(NATS)

Besides this violence, there was also a
suicide bombing at the home of a

government minister that killed four
people.

President Musharraf insists he imposed

emergency rule to combat the threat of

al Qaeda and other extremists.

But most of the people his police force
has rounded up this week are political

protestors.

still indicating a weak clipper system
moving through today. As is typical
with "clipper systems", it'll pass
through quickly Friday, providing more
clouds than sunshine, and a chance of a
few light showers. Mountain snow
showers are also possible; mainly on
the western facing slopes of the
Greenbrier Valley, the Allegheny

warm; so no accumulation is forecast -
just conversational. High temperatures
Friday will still be chilly - near 50.
The clipper is heading east of the area

returning from the midwest. The weekend
calls for a slight warming trend with

mostly to partly sunny skies. Dry
conditions with warming temperatures

OQ=JM, NEWS 7, BLACKSBURG <<((NAT SOUND OF A PLAY))

While most of the attention is here
on the field, there's plenty of action
throughout Lane Stadium.

((NAT SOUND OF CONCESSION WORK
SCREAMING "SUPER NACHO" 10:01:44 CLIP
48))

((NAT SOUND OF OPS WORKER SAYING AT

10:24:19, CLIP 92 "WE HAVE A MEDICAL
EMERGENCY ON THE SIXTH FLOOR"))

((NAT SOUND OF ELEVATOR WORKER SAYING
"HERE WE GO" CLIP 96 9:14:58))

One thing that may surprise you is
that everything except the actual play
on the field, is scripted. (shots at
clip 278

((QUICK NAT SOUND OF THE PRODUCER))

A producer up in the booth follows
the script and calls all the shots.
He'll tell the Corps of Cadets when to
march on the field (corps on the field.
clip 116) when the band plays in the
stands. (shot of band. clip 145
10:27:20), and when messages run on the
scoreboard. (clip 158 10:35:37 or clip
270)

It can get busy in here but not as
hectic as it is a few doors down in the
Operations booth.

((NAT SOUND OF WORKER PICKING UP PHONE
10:24:47, CLIP 92))

Any problem within the stadium comes
through here.

((NAT SOUND OF OPS WORKER SAYING "I
NEED A CAR AT GATE 7" 10:23:59, CLIP
91))

Staff then radios someone to fix it.

((NAT SOUND OF OPS WORKER SAYING
"THEY'RE COMPLAINING OF THE RESTROOM
BEING LOCKED" 9:24:07, CLIP 115))

IT'S PRETTY CRAZY. ALL DAY YOU NEVER
KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, IT'S
DIFFERENT EVERY WEEK.

RUNS03 (END SOT)

OQ=different every week The same could be said for resuce

personnel. They're stationed in the
stands and at several first aid
centers.

((NAT SOUND OF RESQUE SQUAD ON RADIO
8:55:22, CLIP 203))

They'll answer between 40 and 80
calls per game.

OQ=answer them all Answering the call but on a much

larger scale? Law enforcement.

Each game requires 200 officers, some
you see, some you don't.

New this year cameras on top of Lane

Stadium to keep an eye on traffic and
the crowd.

We're told most of the arrests are
often alcohol related.

NIGHT GAMES YOU TYPICALLY SEE MORE
ARRESTS THAN YOU DO IN THE DAY GAMES.

good chance you'll eat at the game.

and bottles of soda are sold each game,
as well 18 thousand bottles of water,
9-thousand hot dogs, and 5-thousand
pretzels.

((NATS OF CONCESSION WORKER SAYING
"HERE YOU GO" AT 10:03:17, CLIP 52))

That adds up to several hundred
thousand dollars in sales, keeping
concession workers busy.

the famed Rockefeller Center in New

The 84- foot Norway Spruce arrived in
Manhattan this morning on the back of

Crews drove the tree in from
Connecticut, where it was cut down on
Wednesday.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree
