to determine the cause.
During a press conference -
representatives from ECS Midland, a
local environmental engineering company
turned up no substances and ruled out
several others.

But another parent we talked to
says absolutely not, she still feels
something inside the school is making
some kids sick.

vocal about the school's reponse to the
mysterious illness at Byrd.
She kept her son out of school
all last week but today sent him back
reluctantly because it would no longer
be considered an accused abscence.
Bradshaw says parents like her

She says they are back at school
and they are still experiencing those
symptoms.

stay home tomorrow, it's hard to say.
Today, 98 students were absent,
that's down from 300 on Friday.
Administrators contacted the
parents of all 98 students, and say
only 15 of them stayed home because of

the field. Police say freshman
Steven Friday, was involved in a big
fight in Blacksburg early Sunday
morning and was arrested.

A crowd of nearly 100 people from
a Blacksburg nightclub spilled onto
Draper Road.
Police say several smaller fights
were going on while people watched and
cheered.
Friday, and several others were

fired at a Chasewood Downs apartment
along Appalachian Drive.
According to police, there were
seven rounds from a 9 millimeter gun
and a single shotgun blast to the
building.
Three male Tech students were in
the apartment at the time.
No one was hurt... and police
didn't arrest anyone in that case.

says possibly one out of three men in
staying in the shelter are homeless.
Emmett Stokes, stays at the
Salvation Army shelter - a shelter
that's also seeing an increase.
After fighting in the Gulf War
Stokes found himself homeless -though
he's also managed to recover on a
number of occasions.
And now, while he has a job, he
still considers himself homeless.

the graduation rate which is clearly

Center. The high temperature today in
Roanoke was 73 and the low was 43. A
warm front pushed through Monday, with
comfortable results. Highs topped out
into 60s and 70s across the region.
High pressure will keep temperatures
well above normal over the next several
days.A disturbance will travel nearby,
with more clouds and an isolated shower
chance Monday night into early Tuesday.
Most of the showers will remain in the
mountains. Temperatures remain warm
until late-week, when a second front is
poised to enter the region, bringing a
slight chance of showers Wednesday
Night. This will also drop temperatures
down into the 50s Thursday afternoon.

that struck the Bay Bridge last week.

PRESIDENT MARTHA NESBITT INSTITUTED THE
BAN AT THE COMMUTER SCHOOL FOUR YEARS
AGO. I thought, wait a minute, we are
an institution of higher education, we
should be setting an example for a
healthy lifestyle. NEARLY 60 COLLEGES
ACROSS THE COUNTRY BILL THEMSELVES AS
SMOKE-FREE INDOORS AND OUT. The trend
to move towards a smoke free country is
going on everywhere and I think that
college campuses are simply reflecting
that same trend we're seeing in

overseas.
Most boxes contain small toys,
school supplies and candy ... they'll
be distributed to more than eight
million children on five continents.

could really care less. They're mainly
interested in the kickoff time for the
UVA-Tech game that is coming up in two
weeks on Thanksgiving weekend.
This year's Battle for the
Commonwealth Cup will kickoff at Noon
that Saturday at Scott Stadium and the
game will be televised by one of the
ESPN networks -either the regular ESPN
of ESPN 2.
The UVA-Tech game has never meant
more than it does this season. The
November 24th game is a winner take all
for the Coastal division title and an
invite to the ACC Championship game -
even if the Hokies lose to Miami this
Saturday.

completed weekend of action, Virginia
Tech's Tyrod Taylor was the easy choice
for ACC rookie of the week honors.

completing 10-of 15 passes for 204
yards and two touchdowns as the Hokies
picked up their first win against
Florida State since 1975.
The true freshman also piled up
92 yards on the ground against the
Seminoles, Taylor has now accounted for
a touchdown in all seven games in which
he has played this season.
This was Tyrod's first game since
suffering a high ankle sprain against
Duke - and he says the month of being
on the sideline and watching was
actually a blessing in disguise. Both
Taylor and Sean Glennon will likely
play against this Saturday.

Conference's award after putting up 19
points and 10 Rebounds in the Hokies
Opener.
The Freshman From Washington D.C.
also had 4 Steals, 2 Blocks and 2
Assists.
Allen is the first Tech Freshman
to record a Double-Double in his first
College game Since Dale Solomon did it
in 1978 in the Metro.
The Hokies are off until
Thanksgiving when they play their first
game in the Great Alaskan Shootout when
they take on Eastern Washington.

the death of rapper Kanye West's
mother.

Medical Center near L.A. says Donda
West died from.
She passed away unexpectedly
Saturday at 58.
An autopsy is expected to be
conducted by Wednesday.
She served as the head of some of
Kanye West's business and charity
ventures.
She was often seen by his side at
award shows and parties and was known
for the strong bond she had with her
son.

theaters in New York and no new talks
are scheduled.
Theater workers say they'll keep
picketing until they get what they want
from show producers but say they are
going to the bargaining table with
"constructive" offers.

the stagehands won't budge on anything.
The walkout began Saturday and
has shut down more than two dozen
theaters.

his backyard.

neighbors called the fire department
