the unusual symptoms reported by some
people.
That's the word from Roanoke
County school administrators after
recent tests were performed at William
Byrd High School.
Recently several students
complained of an illness that caused
unexplained twitching.

eighth grader took a weapon to school
today, but they won't whether it was a
gun.
The student goes to Benjamin
Franklin Middle School.
Authorities say they were alerted
by several tips.
They took the student into
custody this afternoon and later
released to his parents.
It's unclear right now what type
of criminal action the teen could face.

weekend.

fight around 2 a-m yesterday.
A crowd of nearly 100 people from
a Blacksburg nightclub - commonly
called O-C's - spilled onto Draper
Road.
Police say about 30 to 40 small
fights broke out while people watched
and cheered.
Blacksburg Police called for
backup from Tech Police and Montgomery
County while they broke up each fight.
Friday, and several others were
arrested and charged with misdemeanors.

Police say, about two hours
later, in another incident, guns were
fired at a Chasewood Downs apartment
along Appalachian Drive - also in
Blacksburg.
There were seven rounds from a 9
millimeter gun and a single shotgun
blast to the building.

out of time to find homes for fighting
dogs seized from N-F-L star Michael
Vick.
Today had been the deadline, but
it was extended 24 hours because of the
federal Veterans Day holiday.

Vick's "Bad Newz Kennels" operation in
Surry County last April.
The dogs have been in shelters
since then.
Once the applications are
received, federal inspectors want to
inspect the places where dogs would be

double the size of its headquarters in
Botetourt County.
The project is the second in the
Roanoke Valley to seek certification

All this week, volunteers around
the country will be taking in donations
of boxes and re-packaging them for
shipment overseas.
This Lynchburg group took in more
than 600 boxes on their first day for
collections.

Miami this Saturday at 3:30, but really
the only thing football fans in the
Commonwealth have been calling and
e-mailing us about today is the kickoff
time for "The Game" coming up in two
weeks - the showdown with UVA on
Thanksgiving weekend.
This year's Battle for the
Commonwealth Cup will kickoff at Noon
that Saturday at Scott Stadium and the
game will be televised by one of the
ESPN networks -either the regular ESPN
of ESPN 2.
The UVA-Tech game has never meant
more than it does this season. The
November 24th game is a winner take all
for the Coastal division title and an
invite to the ACC Championship game -
even if the Hokies lose to Miami this
Saturday. And while beating the Canes
is a priority - UVA is the reality.

completed weekend of action, and not
surprisingly Virginia Tech's Tyrod
Taylor was the easy choice for ACC
rookie of the week honors.

yards and two touchdowns as the Hokies
picked up their first win against
Florida State since 1975.
The true freshman also piled up
92 yards on the ground against the
Seminoles, Taylor has now accounted for
a touchdown in all seven games in which
he has played this season.
This was Tyrod's first game since
suffering a high ankle sprain against
Duke - and he says the month of being
on the sideline and watching was
actually a blessing in disguise.

Basketball Team got a win in its opener
against Elon this past Friday, and one
of Seth Greenberg's Freshman definitely
stood out and he was recognized by the
A-C-C for his performance.

VO-NAT Jeff Allen earned the Conferences
Rookie of the Year Award after putting
up 19 points and 10 Rebounds in the
Hokies Opener.
The Freshman From Washington D.C.
also had 4 Steals, 2 Blocks and 2
Assists.
Allen is the first Tech Freshman
to record a Double-Double in his first
College game Since Dale Solomon did it
in 1978 in the Metro.
The Hokies are off until
Thanksgiving when they play their first
game in the Great Alaskan Shootout when
they take on Eastern Washington.
