to reveal results of surface testing in
the school's kitchen and cafeteria.
An independent contractor's tests
for foreign substances came back
NEGATIVE.

fired at a Chasewood Downs apartment
along Appalachian Drive.
According to published reports,
the apartment belongs to Macho Harris
-- one of Tech's star football players.
At least two other football

been stolen from him and he saw no

Musharraf set off a storm of criticism
when he imposed emergency rule and
suspended the constitution 10 days ago.
He maintained he HAD to take
desperate measures to save his country
but many saw it as a last-ditch attempt

schools hired an independent contractor
to determine the cause.

injured in an assault in Blacksburg.
It happened at around 6:45 last
night in the 200 block of West Turner
Street
Police say the victim was walking
alone when she was grabbed from behind
and dragged into some bushes.
She was later treated and
released for facial injuries at the
hospital.
The suspect is described as a
man, approximately six feet tall.
He was wearing all black, gloves,
and a mask.

8th grader brought a weapon to school,
but they won't say whether it was a
gun.
The student goes to Benjamin
Franklin Middle School.
Authorities say they were alerted
after several tips came in.
They took the student in to

the city of Roanoke joined forces to
come up with ways to improve the school
system.

unveiled 45 recommendations.
They're centered around improving the
city's pre-school programs, the third
grade reading level, as well as the
graduation rate which is clearly not
where it should be.

Brothers broke ground on an expansion
that will double the size of its
headquarters in Botetourt County.
The project is the second in the
Roanoke Valley to seek certification
from the U- S- Green Building Council.
The highway and bridge contractor

Virginia Tech.

in Blacksburg early Sunday morning.

In another incident about two
hours later - police say guns were
fired at a Chasewood Downs apartment
along Appalachian Drive.
According to published reports,
the apartment belongs to Macho Harris
-- one of Tech's star football players.
At least two other football players
live in the apartment complex too.
Police say there were seven nine
millimeter rounds and a single shotgun
blast to the building -- no on has been
arrested at this time.

out of time to find homes for dogs
seized from Michael Vick.
Yesterday's deadline was extended
24- hours because of the federal
Veterans Day holiday.

VO-NAT 48-dogs were seized from Vick's
"Bad Newz Kennels" operation in Surry
County last April.
The dogs have been in shelters
since then.
Once the applications are
received, federal inspectors want to
inspect the places where dogs would be
housed.

guilty to a federal dogfighting charge
and are set to be sentenced next month.

salaries at public universities are on
the rise.
The University of Virginia's
President John Casteen makes
750-thousand dollars a year.
That puts him at number two on
the survey by the Chronicle of Higher
Education.
U-V-A is second only to the
University of Delaware on the list of
public university salaries
But not one of the top 10
highest-paid presidents makes as much
as
their football coaches.
Cavalier coach Al Groh takes home
one million dollars more than the
president.
